Volatile Overpower Apocalypse Warlock Build
Finding and Creating Charms and Talismans
Everybody loves a good fishing minigame, ergo every game needs a fishing minigame! It was only a matter of time before this trend wormed its ways into the Diablo franchise, so if you find yourself burdened with some free time between fending off the demonic hordes ravaging Sanctuary, you might as well cast a line and see what bites! This guide will cover how to fish in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, including how to start the fishing questline and what rewards you get from fishing.

How to Start Fishing in Diablo IV¶
To start the fishing side quest - and minigame in general - you need to start the Lord of Hatred expansion by traveling to Skovos and completing the main quest The Queen and the Saint. As soon as that quest ends and the next main quest, What’s Yet Unseen begins, you should get a notification telling you that the quest - aptly named Fishing - is available.
Once you’re free from your business in Temis, exit via the northeastern gate (you’ll do this automatically as part of the aforementioned main quest). The quest-giver, Shi Yugong, is just east of Temis, and you can follow the coast southeast from the bridge leaving the city to get to your destination.
When you arrive, find Shi Yugong at the end of a dock where he’s busy… well, he calls it fishing, and we suppose it still counts as fishing even if you can’t catch anything. Anywho, talk to Shi Yugong and he’ll blame you before giving you the fishing rod and challenging YOU to catch something.
(1 of 3) Use the “Cast Fishing Line” emote while facing an applicable body of water to start fishing,
Fishing in Lord of Hatred is an emote, and if you don’t have all your emote slots filled it should just auto-equip to one (we constantly forget we even have emotes in this game…). In this case, press then use
to select the “Cast Fishing Line” emote while facing a valid body of water. Do this correctly and you’ll cast a line, after which you just have to wait until the water near the line starts to get all splashy, at which point press
(there’s also an icon that appears above your character’s head when a fish is on the line, if you prefer that). If you’re quick enough you’ll catch some random fish found in the specific body of water you’re fishing, if not… well, try again. There’s no bait, no complicated minigame, just patience and reflexes.
(1 of 2) After your first catch, a flustered Shi Yugong will challenge you to catch more, starting the side quest “Favor for a Favor”, guiding you on your fishing journey and ensuring you at least get some reward out of the ordeal.

(left), Be sure to fish each spot thoroughly, as fishing spots tend to have a random pool of fish you can catch. (right)
Assuming you manage to pull some fish or another out of the water, pick it up and check out the “Consumables” tab of your inventory to find your catch. If it’s junk, it’ll be in the normal “Equipment” tab, but if it’s a fish, click on it to consume it and add it to your collection. After you’ve added your first fish to your collection, talk to Shi Yugong and he’ll challenge you to catch more fish - really try out that ol’ beginner’s luck of yours. This will start the side quest Favor for a Favor, tasking you with catching a Koalodon, a Silverbelly and a Darkling.
What Do You Gain from Fishing?¶
Your major rewards for fishing are… well, fish, of course, and junk. Junk is junk. Just takes up inventory space. Drop it. Fish can be consumed to add to your collection, which is a challenge you can complete. Go into the “Collections” tab in the menu and pick the “Challenges” banner, then scroll down to “Fishing”. Every fish seems to have an entry and the “Tenacious Angler” challenge tasks you with “Collect[ing] all the fish in Sanctuary”, of which there are 117 variants.
You’ll have to put in a lot of effort to catch all these fish, which requires you to roam every region in Sanctuary looking for spots where you can cast your line. There’s a random pool of fish you can catch from just about every fishing hole, so you’ll just have to keep fishing in a spot until you think you’ve found everything and move on. Fortunately, the fishing challenges are broken up by region so you can see what can be caught where. Granted, it doesn’t narrow things down more than that, but at least you’ll know if you’ve caught everything in, say, Skovos, so you don’t have to fish there anymore.
(1 of 2) Not all fishing is a simple matter of patience and reflexes, however - venture along the coast east and north from where you met Shi Yugong and you’ll find some “Blood in the Water”.
Not all fishing is a simple matter of patience and reflexes, however - venture along the coast east and north from where you met Shi Yugong and you’ll find some “Blood in the Water”. (left), Fishing here can provoke some Kraken Head enemies! A warning that not all fishing ventures will be peaceful! (right)
It’s also worth noting that sometimes fishing is a more involved affair than simply casting a line and pressing a button at the right time. If you follow the coast east and north from Shi Yugong until you find some “Blood in the Water”, and if you fish here you may draw the ire of some Kraken Head enemies lurking under the surface! It’s not much, but it’s perhaps an indicator that fishing in obscure locations may be more than a recreational activity!
