This page offers a guide on how to complete Request 39: All about "Magikarp" IconMagikarp in Pokémon Legends: ARCEUS (PLA).

Request 39: All about Magikarp.

This request can be picked up from Ceci, a little girl who can be found outside Choy’s shop in Jubilife Village during the day. She’ll only appear and offer you this request once you’ve caught a Magikarp though! Ceci will ask you to show her the completed Pokédex Entry for Magikarp.

Where to Find Starly in ARCEUS

Magikarp are found in big crowds.

You can easily find Magikarp in the river near Worn Bridge in Obsidian Fieldlands. There’s also a lot near the bridge to the northeast of Fabled Spring in Coronet Highlands. Wherever you choose to grab a bunch of Magikarp will be dependent on how far through the game you are!

They’re a non-hostile Pokémon so they won’t attack you but if they spot you on the coast they will swim up to you - making it easier to throw a ball at them. Catching a lot of Magikarp is easier on the back of Basculegion though!

Magikarp Research Tasks

Task Milestone 1 Milestone 2 Milestone 3 Milestone 4 Milestone 5

Number of large specimens you’ve caught 1 2 3 5 7
Number defeated 1 3 8 20 40

Times you’ve given it food 1 2 3 4 5
Number of different forms you’ve obtained 2 - - - -

The easiest way to fill up the Magikarp Pokédex entry is to do a mixture of battling to catch and stealth catching. Naturally, catching Magikarps outside of battle is way quicker so you should aim to catch 3 this way. To help keep them from swimming all over the place, you should throw out some food. We threw a Razz Berry at the Magikarp - you’ll also get an extra research point for each time it eats the food you’ve thrown!

Then, if you aim to battle and catch 3 more Magikarp (earning you 6 research points, because you hit the 3rd milestone), you’ll also have the chance to earn more points by witnessing it use Splash (non-damaging attack). Try to reach the 2nd milestone in the Splash task, as you’ll get double points for that task! This should bring you up to 10 Research Points (AKA a completed Pokédex entry).

Alternatively, if you really hate having to repeatedly battle/catch Magikarp, you could add a Magikarp to your party and have an infinite Splash battle against another Magikarp!

However you choose to complete the Pokédex entry, once it’s done return to Ceci and show her the entry to finish the request. You’ll earn x1 Rare Candy.
