Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

How to Get and Evolve Eevee

By
Vincent Lau

This page explains how to obtain "Eevee" IconEevee and evolve it in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).

Eevee Location

Gift from Bebe

(1 of 2) Chat to Bebe after getting the National Dex to receive an Eevee.

After introducing yourself to Bebe at her home in Hearthome City, next to the Pokémon Center, she’ll offer you a gift Eevee (when you’ve obtained the National Pokédex). This is the easiest and quickest Eevee to get.

If you want, you can save before accepting the Eevee, then soft-reset until the Eevee is female (1 in 8 chance) or shiny (1 in 4096 chance). Having a female Eevee will make breeding more convenient, although you could always breed a male Eevee with "Ditto" IconDitto until you get a female.

Trophy Garden

(1 of 2) Keep speaking to Mr. Backlot on different days until he mentions Eevee.

The other place to get Eevee is the Trophy Garden on Route 212. Speak to Mr. Backlot in his mansion office and he’ll “arrange” for additional Pokémon to be added to his garden, including Eevee.

The available Pokémon that are added cycles through a pre-determined list. If Eevee isn’t available yet, keep talking to him on different days until he mentions Eevee. Once this happens, you can encounter Eevee in the Trophy Garden with a 5% rate, in addition to the previously added Pokémon.

How to Evolve Eevee

Eevee is a unique Pokémon that has several evolutionary forms. In total, it can evolve into 8 different forms, although one of them isn’t accessible in this game ("Sylveon" IconSylveon).

Vaporeon

(1 of 2) There’s a Water Stone in the watery part of Route 213.

To evolve Eevee into the Water-type "Vaporeon" IconVaporeon, a Water Stone is required. One can be found on Route 213, at the far eastern part of the southern watery half, north of a pair of swimmers. If you’re lucky, you can dig them up in the Grand Underground.

Jolteon

(1 of 2) Search behind the lighthouse for a Thunder Stone.

A Thunder Stone is needed to evolve Eevee into the Electric-type "Jolteon" IconJolteon. One of these is sitting behind and slightly to the left of the lighthouse in Sunyshore City. You can also dig them up in the Grand Undergroun.

Flareon

(1 of 2) You can nab a Fire Stone from Fuego Ironworks.

To evolve Eevee into the Fire-type "Flareon" IconFlareon, you need a Fire Stone. There are two available from Fuego Ironworks. Like the other stones, you may also find them while digging in the Grand Underground.

Espeon and Umbreon

(1 of 2) Espeon is only available during Morning/Day.

Espeon is only available during Morning/Day. (left), Umbreon is only available during Night. (right)

First appearing in the Johto region, the Psychic-type "Espeon" IconEspeon will evolve from an Eevee with 160 Friendship during the Morning or Day. Meanwhile, the Dark-type "Umbreon" IconUmbreon will evolve from an Eevee with 160 Friendship during the Night.

To boost Eevee’s friendship, you can use these methods, ordered from most effective to least:

  • Catch Eevee in a Luxury Ball.
  • Hatch Eevee from an egg.
  • Let it hold a Soothe Bell (obtained from the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212).
  • Feed it Grepa, Hondew, Kelpsy, Pomeg, Qualot or Tamato Berries.
  • Level Up Eevee in battle.
  • Feed it vitamin items (eg. Calcium) or Rare Candy.
  • Use Battle Items (eg. X Attack) on it.
  • Walk around with Eevee in your party.

Leafeon

(1 of 2) The mossy rock at Eterna Forest.

Debuting in the Sinnoh region, there are two ways for the Grass-type "Leafeon" IconLeafeon to evolve from Eevee. One, you can simply use a Leaf Stone, obtained from Floaroma Meadow or random by digging in the Grand Underground.

Alternatively, you can use the old method of leveling up Eevee after touching the mossy rock inside Eterna Forest, near the north-west corner from the southern entrance (this must be done without leaving the forest).

Glaceon

(1 of 2) The icy rock at Route 217.

Similarly, there are two ways for the Ice-type "Glaceon" IconGlaceon to evolve from Eevee, although one of them isn’t available in this game (using an Ice Stone). Instead, you’ll have to level up Eevee after touching the icy rock located near the north-east corner of Route 217, north of a lonely cabin (this must be done without leaving the route).
