Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Lake Verity (Encounters & Items)

By
Vincent Lau

This is a walkthrough for Lake Verity, including what Pokémon you can encounter and items you can find.

(1 of 2) Lake Verity is one of the first locations that you visited.

Lake Verity is one of the three lakes of Sinnoh, located west from Route 201. At the start of the game, you came here with your rival and ended up befriending your first Pokémon.

After dealing with Team Galactic at Lake Valor, you must return here to rescue the professor’s assistant from Team Galactic.

Stopping Team Galactic

Inside the lake, there are a handful of Galactic Grunts. The first pair of Grunts, you cannot avoid. But once you’ve defeated them, you can surf around to avoid the next two, should you wish.

At the far end of the eastern path, Lucas/Dawn will be trying their best to hold back Team Galactic’s Commander Mars. Now’s your chance to swoop in and look cool.

Commander Mars

(1 of 2) This is your second battle with Commander Mars.

Since your battle at the Valley Windworks, Mars has added one Pokémon to her team and evolved her "Zubat" IconZubat, but that shouldn’t be enough to slow you down.

Her "Golbat" IconGolbat can use Poison Fang for STAB, Bite to chomp on Psychic-types, Astonish for a similar reason presumably and U-Turn to pivot out. For best results, we suggest using an Electric, Rock or Ice-type. A Psychic-type is fine if they’re fast enough.

"Bronzor" IconBronzor is the new addition–an unevolved and hardly intimidating foe. That said, it can use Confuse Ray to inflict confusion, Iron Defense to bolster its Defense, Gyro Ball for STAB and Payback to counter Ghosts. Fire and Dark-types are recommended; Ghosts needn’t fear Payback. But avoid Ground-types since Bronzor floats.

Finally, "Purugly" IconPurugly is Mars’s ace. It can use Slash for STAB, Aerial Ace to annoy Fighting-types and U-turn to switch out. Plus Growl to lower your Attack. Note that it’s holding a Sitrus Berry to restore HP. Despite Aerial Ace, Fighting-types are recommended since they’re super-effective; Ghost-types are worth a try if they have non-Ghost moves.

After saving Lucas/Dawn from Mars, your next call is Lake Acuity, towards the far north of Sinnoh. To get there, you’ll have to trek a long way, starting from the northermost section of Mt. Coronet, accessible by heading east from Eterna City or west from Celestic Town.
