Tips

You’re nearly a Master; expect to search far and wide for ingredients before you can cook up a storm. If you haven’t already, redeem all four Shopping+ Bliss Bonuses to expand the types of items you can buy.

Extra-Creamy Milk can be bought from most meat stalls, Plateau Honey and Saltless Seawater from the Port Puerto Shady Shop, Cave Mushrooms from the granny in Cocina Rica, Magic Powder from Professor Snooze’s Lab and Redgills from the salesplush on Mt. Snowpeak Summit.

You can do Challenges without accepting them, but not without a recipe…

The colourful Rainbow Apple can be gotten rarely from the tree in Farley’s Plantation or bought from the shopkeeper there. The just-as-pretty Rainbow Shells can be picked up on the floor of Nautilus Cave in the middle of Tortuga Archipelago or Cacto Cove.

Juicy Cave Strawberries can be looted from the Napdragon’s Nest on Mt. Snowpeak Summit, from the Fairy Dragon’s nest or by slaying the Fairy Dragons, or purchased from the Elderwood Village general store, whichever is more humane.

Swordfish cannot be bought and must be fished from the central whirlpool in Tortuga Archipelago. Note that you want the blue Swordfish, not the menacing Golden one. Likewise, the Sea Bream of Love must be fished from Cacto Cove.

Monster Meat is rarely dropped by the Behemoth, Gigante or Chimera–all tough bosses usually fought by Mercenaries. Alternatively, you can buy them from the Mercenary in the Al Maajik Spelltown after becoming a Master Mercenary or the shopkeeper at the Rocky Hill Shrine (DLC only).

The Bigbeak Egg can be found in the West Grassy Plains near where the Bigbeak usually appears, at the northern highlands or the frog-inhabited islands between Port Puerto and the campsite. Fortunately Bigbeak isn’t aggressive and doesn’t really care if you steal its egg.

Finally, Truffles can be found very rarely when gathering mushrooms in Deep Elderwood or after defeating a Burrly Bramble. If you can wait, you get 5 Truffles free of charge from Butch during the Flutter’s Requests before completing the main story.
