Chapter 8 - Nautilus

The Clock Tower

Head to the right and kill off the Orion near the Treasure Sphere. Collect the Guardian Armlet afterwards then run over to the left side and retrieve the Healer’s Staff (weapon for Vanille which improves Cure magic). Five Metrodroids dance around this treasure so remove those first.

Power Tip : The group of five Metrodroids you just encountered can be killed for 640CP which is a huge amount for this time in the game. You can make them respawn by returning to the Treasure Sphere in the Mall area and back again. By farming them, you should be able to complete a lot of the Crystarium for this point in the game.

Save at the Save Station and kit your characters with any TP increasing accessory, or an accessory that guards against poison. Prepare the following paradigms:

  1. SYN/SAB (default)

  2. SYN/MED

  3. COM/RAV

  4. RAV/RAV

  5. COM/MED

  6. RAV/MED

Boss Battle: Midlight Reaper

Despite the boss's fearsome appearance, it is not too difficult to defeat as it can be staggered quickly. It can also inflict Poison, so it is best if Vanille has learned Esuna as a Medic.

Midlight Reaper Stats
Level / HP LV 56 / 100,800 HP
Strength / Magic 200 STR / 119 MAG
Stagger / Chain Res. / CP 160% / 50 Chain Resistance / 1,500 CP
Vulnerabilities Fire (Weak) / Ice (Weak) / Lightning (Immune) / Physical (Halves) / Magical (Halves)
Common Drop / Rare Drop Gyroscope (25%) / Piezoelectric Element (5%)

An easy battle, provided you make it that way. Begin by having Sazh pop Haste, Protect and Shell on himself and Vanille. Meanwhile the boss is likely to poison you, but for now, shrug it off until Vanille lands Deprotect and Imperil on it. When they stick, switch to or until Poison is gone, then keep switching between and until the enemy is Staggered. The boss has two other attacks: one hits a character for about 200 damage, and the other is an attack with an extremely long charge time (hits both characters for about 250 damage). When the Imperil status on the boss is gone, reapply it again, as it’s a huge help in driving the boss towards defeat.
