The entrance to The Burrows can be found just north of the middle of The Forbidden Sands region.

How to Find The Burrows

The Burrows is an optional region in Alfheim where the favor Song of the Sands takes place. If you completed Secret of the Sands in The Barrens, you know roughly what to expect; like The Below, The Burrows is a small area buried under a larger region (in this case, The Forbidden Sands), and your purpose here is to free a confined Hafgufa. That said, there are also numerous collectibles you can find as you travel through the depths of The Burrows.

You can reach The Burrows immediately following the main quest The Reckoning, during which you’ll obtain the upgraded chisel. With this tool in hand you can return to The Barrens where, along its western edge, you’ll find a sealed door. Use the improved chisel to open the door and reach The Forbidden Sands - the cave that leads to The Burrows can be found within this storm-swept desert region.

You can find the Rune Read - Silence Lore collectible scrawled on a wall southwest of a subterranean tree.

Rune Read - Sacrifice

Progress through The Burrows until you encounter your first Wretch Hive, after which you’ll enter into a large chamber open to the sky, with a tree growing in the middle. It’s also swarming with Grims and a few Light Elves. Clear the room, then search a wall southwest of the tree to find the Rune Read - Sacrifice.

Legendary Chest - Hel’s Touch

From the Lore collectible (see above) carry on through The Burrows, squeezing through a narrow gap before completing a series of climbing/grappling segments, at the end of which you’ll find yourself at the southeastern edge of a large cavern where you’ll have to fight more Grims and Light Elves.

Defeat them and make your way to the southwestern edge of the room to find a wall you can climb. Do so, turn north, northwest and look down to find a horizontal slab of Twilight Stone you can use to cut through a dense hive tendril. Once done, climb back down and head over to where the dense hive tendril was - you can now climb the wall here, ultimately allowing you to reach the ledge upon where this Legendary Chest sits. Plunder it to obtain the Hel’s Touch Light Runic Attack for the Leviathan Axe.

After freeing the Hafgufa, return to the entrance to the chamber and head right (northeast) to reach a chamber that was previously blocked by hive. Drop down a ledge and you’ll be attacked by a Bergsra (not to be confused with a Bergsra Mother) and two Grims. Kill them, then search the northern end of the chamber to find this Legendary Chest. Inside you’ll find the Nemean Crush, a Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos.

(1 of 2) The Loot Lizard in The Burrows will remain burrowed, but you can spot a telltale sign that it's burrowed nearby.

How to Kill the Loot Lizard in The Burrows

While not technically a collectible, you can find a Loot Lizard in the depths of The Burrows, which is well worth killing for the resources it yields. You’ll find this elusive reptile in the same cavern as the Legendary Chest that contained the Hel’s Touch Light Runic Attack (see above), and you’ll go about killing it by largely following the same steps you took to reach said Legendary Chest. Once on the elevated ledge that houses the Legendary Chest, look off the edge to the south to spot the Loot Lizard on the floor below - it otherwise abstains from surfacing, being tricky to spot save for the glowing patch it leaves on the ground. Just chuck the Leviathan Axe at it from the ledge with the Legendary Chest and it’ll die, allowing you to drop down and grab whatever it leaves behind.

In the same room where you fight the Bergsra, you can find the Tribute to Freyr - Pipe Artifact.

Where to Find All Artifacts in The Burrows

Tribute to Freyr - Pipe

After freeing the Hafgufa, return to the entrance to the chamber and head right (northeast) to reach a chamber that was previously blocked by hive. Drop down a ledge and you’ll be attacked by a Bergsra (not to be confused with a Bergsra Mother) and two Grims. Kill them, then search the northwestern end of this room to find this Artifact lying on the floor near a ruined column. Pick it up to obtain the Tribute to Freyr - Pipe Artifact.
