How to Complete A Soldier’s March

This is how to actually complete the quest, including all of the objectives.

Go to the Start of the Climb

Go where the map leads you. You’ll find two soldiers arguing, as one of their brothers is climbing the mountain. It’s part of his test to become a soldier too, but she’s worried and asks Aloy to go and find him.

Climb Up the Cliff

Use R3 DualSense-R3 to scan for climbing ledges and head up the cliff. This part shouldn’t be too hard, as it’s pretty much a straight path up.

Once you’ve made it up there, talk to Wekatta.

Kill the Machine

You’ll then have to follow a path and find a climber who is being attacked by a Stalker. Kill the Stalker to help him, and he will insist on continuing on.

Scan for Tracks

You’ll have to scan the area for Penttoh’s tracks. This will lead you to climb the mountain to find him. If you tags the tracks and follow them, you can go straight up his exact climbing path.

The tracks should be easy enough to locate.

At one point when climbing, the path will stop and you can’t follow. At that point, you need to find an alternative.

Climb up the wall and glide to the climbing hook. When you’re there, you can then glide to a ledge on the other side to continue on.

Kill the Machines

You’ll soon find Penttoh being attacked by some Machines. Help him out and when he insists on continuing the climb, it’s time to go with him.

Climb the Mountain

For the most part, the climb is quite straight forward. Don’t forget to use your Pullcaster when necessary, as it’s been a while since it was needed and you might forget this is an option. Overall, the climb shouldn’t pose too many difficulties at this point.

Kill the Frostclaw and Finish the Mission

At the end of the mission, you’ll have to kill a large Frostclaw and head back down to talk to Wekatta.

The gliding provides a nice, easy, scenic route at the end.

You can just glide straight down, so it’s an easy route to the finish line.

How to Kill the Frostclaw

The Frostclaw can be a bit of a challenge.

An extremely fierce acquisition machine that moves far more quickly than its size suggests. Its vast stores of Chillwater powers its deadly Frost attacks.

The Frostclaw, obviously, is very strong against Frost attacks so don’t make the mistake of using those. The best kind of attacks to use are Fire and Shock, though other Elemental attacks can also deal good damage to the machine.

There are a few different components to the Frostclaw:

  • Chillwater Sac
  • Sparker
  • Chillwater Unit
  • Resource Container

Shooting off the Chillwater Sac will do the most damage, so that’s the part you want to aim for. Otherwise, remember the Frostclaw moves pretty quickly despite its size.
