By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow in Horizon Forbidden West, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, and what the strengths and weaknesses of the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow are.

Cleaving Sharpshot Bow Description

“A Tenakth trophy taken from Oseram trespassers. This handy long-range bow uses powerful Tear Precision Arrows to remove armor and machine parts.”

You’ll automatically obtain the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow during the main quest “The Broken Sky”.

How to Get the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow

Location Cost
Memorial Grove Dekka N/A

During the main quest The Broken Sky you’ll visit the Memorial Grove. After meeting with Hekarro, talk to Dekka and she’ll give you the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow.

How to Use the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow

The Cleaving Sharpshot Bow really excels at one thing - removing components from machines. That’s not to denigrate this bow; for a weapon you get for free midway through the story, it is quite surprising how much of an upgrade it is over, say the [Hardweave Sharpshot Bow], having more perks, superior stats, and access to Tear Precision Arrows. It may not be able to match some of the Very Rare bows you can buy, like the [Delta Sharpshot Bow], but it’s good enough at its job that it may delay the order in which you feel compelled to upgrade your weapons.

Speaking of perks, the Cleaving Sharpshot Bow is unusual for a Rare weapon, as it possesses three perks, all of them fairly useful. These include Draw Speed (up to a whopping +65% when maxed), Component Damage, and Overdraw Damage (both +25%). All three of these conspire to make this bow better at its primary function, just keep in mind that Tear Precision Arrows really don’t do much in the way of Impact damage, and overzealously removing components may be counterproductive if you plan to defeat the machine, as you’re essentially depriving yourself of weakpoints to target.

The Cleaving Hunter Bow can unlock up two two Coil Slots - standard for Rare weapons.

Cleaving Sharpshot Bow Ammo Types

Icon Name Effect
hfw_precision_arrow_icon.jpg Precision Arrows Deals Impact_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Impact and Tear_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Tear damage
hfw_tear_precision_arrow_icon.jpg Tear Precision Arrows Deals Impact_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Impact and Tear_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Tear damage
  • Precision Arrows: The standard ammunition for Sharpshot Bows. Deals heavy Impact damage and moderate Tear damage. Great for sniping from afar, especially as a stealthy first strike.

  • Tear Precision Arrows: Specialized Precision Arrows that deal tremendous Tear damage, but little Impact damage. Excellent for removing components, but deals very little actual damage to most machines. Use these to remove troublesome weapons or harvest must-have components (ideally before a fight begins), but be wary - removing too many components may deprive you of Weakpoints to strike if you want to destroy the machine.
