Horizon Forbidden West

The Skykiller (Legendary)

By
Staci Miller

The Skykiller Spike Thrower is part of the Spike Thrower archetype. Spike Throwers are simply spikes thrown that explode a few seconds after landing. While their execution can be very slow, they hit hard when they land, so they can be great in some situations.

The Skykiller is the only Legendary Spike Thrower available in the game, and the most difficult one to get as a result.

Description

A prized weapon saved from a Quen shipwreck. When it strikes, enemies fall out of the sky like streaks of burning light.

Where to get the Skykiller Spike Thrower

To get the Skykiller Spike Thrower, you must complete the quest No Way Home.

This is the full weapons page for the Skykiller.

This is only accessible towards the end of the game as, to unlock that side quest, you must first complete the main quest Faro’s Tomb. Once you’ve done that, talk to the NPC on the ship to receive the side quest. Complete the whole quest and return to them to collect your reward.

Best Use

Spike Throwers are best used for slow machines that you want to get rid of quickly. Although the damage they can deal is shockingly mighty, it takes quite a while to load them up and quick machines may get the better of you in that time.

They’re also great to use from some cover or a slight distance, where even the fastest machines might take a second to get to you.

However, once you’ve hit Level 4 on this one, your draw speed increases by 65% which means it’s no longer much of an issue and can also work pretty well with any machine.

Because this Spike Thrower can deal Fire damage if you load up Fire Spikes, it’s especially useful on machines weak to fire. These include:

  • Burrowers
  • Spikesnouts
  • Lancehorns
  • Corruptors
  • Glinthawks
  • Snapmaws
  • Behemoths
  • Shellsnappers
  • Frostclaws

The Aerial Enemy Damage and Burning Enemy Damage perks are also pretty good to keep in mind when taking on flying Machines and Machines that are already on fire. Overall, this weapon is pretty powerful due to its Legendary status.
