Find yourself a notice board and select the Overlord hunt to locate the Petitioner, an Insecure Seeq who resides in Archades. Once done, head over to the Molberry area of Archades and enter the Bulward’s Technicks shop, where you’ll find your Seeq. The Insecure Seeq is upstairs, and like so many humans, he’s got a bit of a girl problem, and thinks he can cure his romantic prospects by killing a dangerous monster. Of course, that takes skill, which he may be lacking, and that’s where you come in.

Agree to help him out, then return to the Sochen Cave Palace. Unfortunately this time you’ll need to travel through the place, as Overlord is found near the southern-end of the Sochen Cave Palace, in the Doubt Abandoned zone.

Talk to the Insecure Seeq and he’ll tell you his plan (left) then join him in the Sochen Cave Palace (right).

When you arrive in the Doubt Abandoned zone, the Insecure Seeq will join the party as an ally… not quite a guest, as you have no control over him, and fortunately, you don’t need to care about his safety in the fight ahead. Simply work your way south to find a dead-end chamber along the western end of the area, near the center of the map, where you should find Overlord prowling.

Despite being level 42, Overlord has around half the HP that Darksteel did, clocking in at over 60,000 HP. This is deceptive, however, as once below 50% of its HP, Overlord will get a significant defense boost. It’s Attack Power is significantly higher, however, and you can therefore expect Overlord to dish out more damage. It’s attacks include the standard Lunge, Rage, Smite of Rage and Tri-Attack, and these are potent enough that you may want to consider using Bubble and Protect to mitigate damage. Overlord ignores the Evade rate of his targets, so don’t rely on Main Gauche and shields. In addition, Overlord can make use of Pyromania, an area-of-effect technick that’ll deal fire damage. Bringing along some Fire Resistance gear like the Adamant Vest, Adamant Hat, Flame Shield and Sash can help mitigate this damage.

A Knight with a Karkata can perpetually keep Overlord off-balance by inflicting Confuse (left). After you’re victorious, the Insecure Seeq will take the glory, and invite you to meet him back in Archades for your reward (right).

Overlord doesn’t come into battle with any buffs active, but will merrily cast Bravery if given the chance, which improves his already potent offense. Fortunately, Overlord can be inflicted with Blind, Confuse, Disease and Silence, Blind and Silence particularly effective at hindering Overlord’s offense. Overlord, like Darksteel, takes half damage to most elements, being weak to one (Water) and absorbing another (Fire). Aqua isn’t sufficiently powerful to really recommend bringing along a Black Mage, but the Shikari’s Iga Blade will serve you well in this fight, as will any Hand-Bomb if you have the Water Bombs ammo. Failing that, the Karkata will constantly inflict Confuse and keep Overlord off guard. Overlord can drop Forbidden Flesh, a Fire Crystal or a Gemini Gem.

Once defeated, the Seeq will chortle about “his” victory before returning to Bulward’s Technicks in Archades. Go pay the Seeq a visit to complete the hunt and earn your reward.
