How to Find and Complete the Mistwood Ruins in Limgrave

By
Nathan Garvin

Information and walkthrough for the Mistwood Ruins location in Elden Ring, including details about how to obtain the Axe Talisman and how to find Blaidd.

How to Find the Mistwood Ruins

The Mistwood Ruins can be found in the heart of the Mistwood, along the eastern end of Limgrave. You can find it by following the road southwest from the Third Church of Marika. You can also find the Map: Limgrave, East near a monument along the road as you go. You’ll likely encounter a Lesser Runebear along the road, as well as some Demi-Humans near a sacked wagon, but if you just ride past you don’t have to deal with them.

How to Complete the Mistwood Ruins

Follow the road southwest from the Third Church of Marika and you should find the ruins just off the road to the right. Along the way, you should spot a Lesser Runebear molesting a tree. Focus less on the “lesser” part of the name and more on the “Runebear”, as this can prove to be a potent foe for low-level characters. If you defeat it, however, you can loot a nearby corpse to obtain the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook… or you can just make a mad dash and grab it. Even if you die, you keep your prize.

Aside from a Lesser Runebear snoozing near some stairs, there’s not much in the way of danger in these ruins. If you pick a fight with the beast, be careful - it may not have a proper boss bar, but it hits fairly hard and in the confines of the ruins it can be tricky to dodge its attacks. If you make it past (whether you kill the Runebear or not doesn’t matter), head down the stairs to reach a cellar, where you’ll find a chest containing the Axe Talisman, which is by far this area’s most noteworthy bit of loot.

Other than that you can search a ruined tower to the north, wherein awaits another chest. Loot it to obtain a Smithing Stone (2).

How to Find Blaidd

While it may not be readily apparent, there’s an NPC in these ruins, but getting him to appear takes a bit of effort. To find him, visit the ruins and listen for the sounds of a wolf howling. During your first visit, just hearing this audible queue is all you can do. Return to the Church of Elleh, talk to Kale, and pick the option “About the howling in Mistwood” and he’ll teach you the Gesture: Finger Snap.

Armed with this gesture, return to the Mistwood Ruins and head to the northern outskirts of the ruins, just beyond the tower where you found the Smithing Stone (2) earlier. Use the Gesture: Finger Snap, then search in an alcove behind (north of) the tower to find Blaidd, a giant wolf-man. Despite his fearsome bearing, he’s not hostile, and if you talk to him you’ll be able to summon him if you head southwest to the Forlorn Hound Evergaol, where you can confront Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. Summoning Blaidd will make this fight much, much easier, and allow you to acquire the excellent Bloodhound’s Fang weapon, which is as good a reason to find him in the Mistwood Ruins as any other.
