By
Nathan Garvin

Information and walkthrough for the Kingsrealm Ruins in Elden Ring, including details about how to defeat the Royal Revenant, how to get through the illusory wall and find War Counselor Iji, and how to obtain the Liurnia Map: West and the Frozen Needle.

How to Find the Kingsrealm Ruins in Elden Ring

The Kingsrealm Ruins can be found along the northwestern end of Liurnia. To reach it, you’ll need to head through the large “lake” in the middle of Liurnia until you reach Raya Lucaria Academy, then head west to reach the shore. Follow a road north past the Foot of the Four Belfries Site of Grace and the Northern Lucaria Lake Shore Site of Grace to reach the Kingsrealm Ruins.

How to Complete the Kingsrealm Ruins

The Kingsrealm Ruins are, frankly, little more than a landmark en route to the far more interesting Caria Manor to the north. The ruins are populated by Aristocrats, who are nuisances who cast spells, then vanish, only to reappear elsewhere to repeat the process. Their damage output is low and they’re not sturdy enough to survive much abuse. Other than that, the only other mundane enemies you’ll find are two packs of Wolves, each of which contains several hounds.
There’s little in the way of loot in the ruins, but you can find the Liurnia Map: West at the foot of a monument south of the ruins, northeast of the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.

While the inhabitants of the ruins aren’t very rewarding to smack around, the ruins themselves are another matter. Head to the northern end of the ruins and you’ll find a wall, but note the brick-filled archway - if you strike it, you’ll dispel an illusory wall, allowing you to continue north to find the Road to the Manor Site of Grace and War Counselor Iji. Note that dispelling this wall isn’t strictly necessary, as with careful jumping, you can cross the cliffs northwest of the wall.

This isn’t the only illusion in these ruins, and this second illusion leads to a more worthy foe than found elsewhere in these ruins. Head up the stairs along the southern end of the ruins and continue northeast along some arches until you can turn right (southeast). Continue southeast until you find a ghost (if you talk to him, he’ll just apologize to Iji), next to which is a hole in the wall. Go through it, continue southeast, jump over a short wall and land on a lower stone floor. If you strike the center of this floor (a jumping heavy attack should suffice, but may vary depending on your weapon) the ground will vanish, revealing a staircase.

Descend the stairs and you’ll find a mist wall, beyond which you’ll find a Royal Revenant. This critter will appear as a standard enemy later on, but here it serves as an optional boss. This foes fits in the cheap, aggressive spammer archetype of Souls bosses, and while he has few attacks - most of which deal minor or moderate damage - he can be dangerous through sheer volume of strikes. The Royal Revenant can also teleport by burrowing into the ground, and when it surfaces it’ll likely spew a line of poison, which inflicts significant poison buildup and persists on the floor for a while.

Fortunately this boss is weak to almost every form of damage, save for holy. It doesn’t have a great deal of health, and while spammy, if you summon some allies to draw aggro it’ll quickly become trivial to score hits and bring the boss down. Aside from runes, you’ll get nothing for defeating this boss, but you will be able to loot a chest in a small room to the southwest, wherein you’ll find the Frozen Needle.

How to Find War Counselor Iji

War Counselor Iji can be found just north of the Kingsrealm Ruins, sitting across the road from the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Smack the illusory wall (the bricked up arch) at the northern end of the Kingsrealm Ruins or jump past the wall using the cliffs to the northwest to reach him. He’ll upgrade armaments for you, as well as sell a variety of Somber Smithing Stones - useful for quickly upgrading unique weapons.

Item Cost (Souls) Notes
Somber SMithing Stone (1) 2000 -
Somber SMithing Stone (2) 3000 -
Somber SMithing Stone (3) 4000 -
Somber SMithing Stone (4) 6000 -
Carian Filigreed Crest 5000 Talk to Ranni at Ranni’s Rise, beyond Caria Manor, then help Blaidd defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. Iji should sell this item afterwards.
