How to Get the Meteorite Staff Early

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about how to obtain the Meteorite Staff in Elden Ring.

The Meteorite Staff can be obtained early and has S-rank Intelligence scaling.

What is the Meteorite Staff?

The Meteorite Staff is a staff-type weapon that can be used to cast Sorceries. If you didn’t start out with a staff, this is one of the earliest staves in the game you can acquire, and even if you did start out with a staff, this specimen has S-rank Intelligence scaling by default. It can’t be upgraded, but it arguably doesn’t need to be for quite a long time. It might not be the best staff in the game, but it may well be the best early-game staff, and it only requires a relatively reasonable 18 Intelligence to wield properly. It also boosts gravity magic, which is a nice boon.

How to Get the Meteorite Staff Early in Elden Ring

To get the Meteorite Staff you’ll need to head to the Street of Sages Ruins in Caelium, which is a fair distance east from where you start the game (the Stranded Graveyard). It’s a journey, but by no means insurmountable. Before you get started, however, you’ll need to acquire Spectral Steed Whistle, which you’ll be given the first time you rest at the Gatefront Site of Grace near the Gatefront Ruins. Once you have this, you’re good to go.

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to find the Meteorite Staff:

The first few steps are fairly easy (and in fact you’ll have to do them before you’re fit to make a serious run at this weapon), but we’ll assume you’re fresh out of the Stranded Graveyard.

First you’ll need to head northwest to the Church of Elleh, then follow the road northeast to reach the Gatefront Ruins. Rest at the Gatefront Site of Grace and you’ll be visited by Melina, who will give you the Spectral Steed Whistle, which you can use to summon your mount, Torrent.

How to Get From the Gatefront Ruins to the Third Church of Marika

Summon Torrent and follow the road southeast. Cross a bridge and when you reach a fork, turn north, ultimately following the trail northeast until you reach the Third Church of Marika.

You may encounter Kaiden Sellswords and a Troll-drawn carriage convoy along the road southeast of the Gatefront Ruins, but you should be able to evade them by just keeping your distance and riding past. On the northeastern fork after the bridge you’ll encounter more enemies, including numerous Demi-Humans under a collapsed curved building that now arches over the road. You’ll probably hear somebody named Kenneth Haight call out to you here - don’t worry, just ignore the whole situation, they’ll still be here when you want to come back and deal with them. Finally, just outside of the Third Church of Marika you’ll find a Troll armed with a sword appropriate to its stature. Again, no reason to fight, just ride past it and into the church.

How to get from the Third Church of Marika to the Rotview Balcony

When you’re ready for the next phase of the journey, exit the Third Church of Marika and head north, cross a shallow river, and look for a white vortex rising into the air. These “Spiritsprings” will allow you to jump exceptionally high while riding Torrent, and you’ll need to use three of them to ascend north up the nearby cliffs.

When you reach the top of these cliffs you’ll find the Smoldering Church to the north, and while it offers the reprieve in the form of the Smoldering Church Site of Grace, it’s guarded by Anastasia, Tarnished-Eater, a faux invader who will do her best to make your life miserable. She’s by no means unbeatable for a low-level character, but it’s neither easy nor necessary to fight her right now, nor is the Site of Grace she guards any great boon.

Instead, keep your distance and ride to the east, jump over a wall to leave Limgrave behind and enter Caelid, then continue east until you find the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace.

How to get from Rotview Balcony to the Smoldering Wall

Rest up and get ready for the third leg of the journey. Get on the road and follow it northeast. It’ll ultimately curve south as it leads to the Caelem Ruins. You can find the Caelem Ruins Site of Grace along the road to the north of the ruins if you need another waypoint. Ride through the ruins and keep following the road while looking out for the Smoldering Wall Site of Grace, which should be on your left just beyond a Birdeye Telescope. The eponymous wall kind of gives the site away, as well.

How to Find the Meteorite Staff in the Street of Sages Ruins

Make sure you’re fully healed, then summon Torrent again and ride to the southeast until you find some cliffs overlooking the Swamp of Aeonia. Follow the cliffs south, ignoring any enemies lurking about, and keep looking left (east) until you spot a ruined tower. Jump off the cliff near this tower and be sure to double jump before you hit the ground to mitigate or avoid damage. Note that you must be riding Torrent and you must jump off the cliff in order to double jump - if you just ride off, you’re going to be making a quick trip back to the last Site of Grace you rested at.

Once in the swamp you should discover the Street of Sages Ruins area. Ride up onto the foundation of the ruined tower, dismount, then head through a doorway to reach the interior of what’s left of the tower. You’ll need to kill three Poison Flowers to clear the way, after which you can grab the Meteorite Staff off a corpse in a window.
