Luck of the Far Realms Tips in Baldur's Gate 3

By
Craig Robinson

The Luck of the Far Realms Illithid Power is one of the strongest Illithid Powers that any class can handle. The Illithid power allows any successful attack roll or spells hit to guarantee crit, meaning that there’s some serious power available from players who use this spell. While it is certainly good on everyone, there are a few synergies it works best with. Here’s a close look at the best synergies to use with the Luck of the Far Realms power in Baldur’s Gate 3

Best Luck of the Far Realms Synergies in Baldur’s Gate 3

(1 of 2) The Luck of the Far Realms is one of the strongest Illithid powers you can invest in for martial-focused classes.

The Luck of the Far Realms has some great synergies. Here’s a closer look at the best ones

  1. Paladin Divine Smite Crits
  2. Rogue (Assassin) Sneak Attacks
  3. Colossal Slayer Rangers
  4. Vulnerable Damage - Ideally from Mo
  5. Half-Orcs Savage Attacks Racial

The best use of this Illithid power is the Divine Smite Crit. !Paladins have a reaction they can make with the Luck of the Far Realms Power, allowing them to guarantee credit. When a !Paladin has a spare spell slot, they can add a reaction to deal radiant damage on top of the damage they just dealt. It’s a great way of allowing the paladin to do some heavy Great Weapon mastery hits, with a crit, with a Divine Smite on top. You’re basically throwing dice all over the board, and dealing a lot of damage.

Assassination !Rogues are all about making someone out in the first turn of combat, granting some better advantages on attacks against characters who have yet to have a turn in battle. Add in the Stealth options, then you can make some empowered attacks;l Combine your advantage rolls via Assassination, with a Sneak attack guaranteed crit with either your melee or ranged weapon, and you will deal a lot of damage.

A Colossal Slayer !Ranger is a feat that allows them to do damage against some really high HP foes. If you can land an attack and use the Luck of the Far Realms power, you make yourself a better boss killer in the process.

Vulnerability is a DnD feature that allows you to deal double damage. In BG3, this often is applied by making a creature Wet, and then dealing either "Cold" iconCold or Lightning Damage to it. Since you can make your spells a guaranteed crit, you can use the highest spell slot possible for a cold or lightning damage spell, do the maximum amount of damage thanks to its crit roll, and then double it because of the wet status. You can also grab "The Blast Pendant" iconThe Blast Pendant from Act 1 to further empower your lightning strikes, especially if you use a Lightning Charge-themed weapon for even more power in this combo. There are certain types of spells you can use, or weapons to make modifiers to get these lightning or cold attacks to get this to proc, which is more often than not seen with classes like Four Elements Monk. But, you can also get it with things like Druids, Lightning Grasp spells, and other niche ways of applying it.

Lastly, any martial class that uses a Half-Orc as their race will benefit significantly from the Luck of the Far Realms power in BG3. The reason for this is down to their racial, Savage Attacks. In BG3, you get to triple the amount of dice rolled when you crit, rather than double. So, if you can land a Luck of the Far Realms hit, you will be dealing with three dice, on top of any other effect you have, such as the Divine Smite crit for !Paladins.
