Baldur's Gate 3

A Complete Guide to Romance in Baldur's Gate 3

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on all you need to know about romance in Baldur’s Gate 3, including who you can romance and how to romance them.

Minthara is…very grateful for your help in Druid Grove.

What is Romance in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Romance is a type of interaction between you and your companions. If you choose to romance a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to start by raising their approval of you - you can see when they “approve” or “disapprove” of your actions when you choose a certain outcome or dialogue option with NPCs and throughout the story. When you win your chosen companion’s approval, they’ll start to get a little flirty and you can choose to deepen your relationship with them.

In order to romance a companion, you’ll actually have to add them to your party first so don’t kill them!

Who Can You Romance in Baldur’s Gate 3?

You can romance any of the companions and it’s not gender-locked either, meaning you can romance any of them regardless of your character’s gender. As we mentioned above, you need to increase your chosen companion’s approval in order to begin romancing them, and in addition to siding with them and choosing appropriate dialogue options and outcomes, you can also increase your romancing chances by helping them with their personal quests and objectives.

Keep an eye out for info in the top left that indicates when you’ve won the approval or disapproval of your companions!

Below is the complete list of all companions, and Larian has confirmed all companions are romanceable:

Companion Class Race
Astarian Rogue High Elf
"Gale" iconGale Wizard Human
Halsin Druid Wood Elf
Jaheira Druid High Elf
"Karlach" iconKarlach Barbarian Asmodeus Tiefling
"Lae'zel" iconLae’zel Fighter Githyanki
Minsc Ranger Human
Minthara Paladin Drow
"Shadowheart" iconShadowheart Cleric (Trickery) Half High Elf
Wyll Warlock (Fiend) Human

Can You Have Multiple Romances at the Same Time?

You can, indeed, form multiple relationships with different companions. However, this won’t be without consequences with some of the companions. Some of them won’t be okay with polyamory whilst others won’t mind an open relationship. If you plan on wooing multiple companions, you might not want to have them in your party at the same time.

So far, it seems that Halsin, "Karlach" iconKarlach and "Astarion" iconAstarion are pretty chill with open relationships, but we will do more research into the exact specifics of each companions’ preferences. We suspect that certain companions that don’t like each other (i.e "Lae'zel" iconLae’zel and "Shadowheart" iconShadowheart) might not be happy with being two-timed! This is especially the case given your romances will also impact the opinion of your other companions about your character.
