Baldur's Gate 3 - Rescue The Gnome Walkthrough

By
Shane Williams

The "Rescue the Gnome" iconRescue the Gnome Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be acquired by approaching a windmill which is located to the north of the "Blighted Village" iconBlighted Village, then you’ll find a Gnome named Barcus and he has been tied up to the windmill by some local goblins. Here you’ll have to find a way to get rid of the goblins and bring the windmill to a stop in order to free him. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and how to deal with the goblins.

Head to this location on the map to begin the Rescue the Gnome Quest.

How to Start the Rescue The Gnome Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3

In order to begin this quest you’ll need to progress through the story until you make it off the ship and find yourself on the "Wilderness" iconWilderness Map which is where the majority of Act 1 takes place. Here you’ll want to make your way to the Blighted Village which is located in the center of the map, then you’ll want to make your way up the northwest of the village until you stumble across a windmill. Alternatively, you can head east from the "Goblin Camp" iconGoblin Camp if you’ve traveled there first.

As you close in on the windmill the quest will pop up and you’ll have two choices, fight the gnomes off or pass a persuasion skill check to cause them to retreat on their own accord. If you really don’t want to bother with a battle, then you can keep reloading your save until you win. However, it’ll probably be quicker to participate in the battle depending on your stats.

If a battle occurs, then you’ll want to focus all your attention on the leader Fezzerk, as if you take them down, then the others will retreat which makes your life a lot easier as you get to save a lot of your resources. Once you’ve tracked down Fezzerk’s location, slowly bring your strong melee characters towards them whilst firing long-range spells, such as "Eldritch Blast" iconEldritch Blast or "Witch Bolt" iconWitch Bolt to gradually deplete their health. This will allow your melee characters to simply finish Fezzerk.

After the Gnomes have been dealt with you’ll want to enter the windmill via the hole in the broken wall, then you’ll see two levers near the cogs which are “Brake Lever” or “Release Brake Lever”. Simply interact with the brake lever, then head back outside and speak with Barcus and free him. If you ask for a reward after freeing him, then you’ll now be informed that he has a backup somewhere around the windmill which you can have.

From here, proceed into the wooden hatch which is attached to the windmill, then you’ll find a heavy chest and a heavy backpack in the corner. Interact with them to claim the following items: Arrow of "Fire" iconFire, "The Speedy Lightfeet" iconThe Speedy Lightfeet, Smokepowder Satchel, "Gold" iconGold and Camp Supplies.
