The Wilderness is the first large area you’ll get to explore in Act 1 and as a result there are lots of hidden chests scattered throughout the various areas which you’ll want to unlock for their goodies, such as weapons, armor and gold. Some of which require certain companions to open, so this page will navigate you through the necessary steps finding the scuffed rock hidden chest.

Scuffed Rock Location in Baldur’s Gate 3¶

There are a few things you’ll want to do before looking for the scuffed rock, such as finding Lae’zel. Below you’ll find out her location and how to easily free her.

Where to Find Lae’zel¶

Your first objective on your quest of obtaining the scuffed rock chest is to find and add Lae’zel to your party otherwise you won’t be able to move the rock unless you’re playing a strong character (such as Barbarian) yourself. In order to find her you’ll need to make your way north of the Roadside Cliffs and eventually you’ll come across two Tieflings that are looking towards someone that’s locked in a cage. Here you’ll want to select the follow these steps on our How to Rescue Lae’Zel in Baldur’s Gate 3 page to deal with the Tieflings, then you’ll want to shoot up the cage with either a Bow or a Long Range spell.

How to Move the Scuffed Rock in Baldur’s Gate 3¶

Next up, you’ll want to head back to where you first started in this region and head northwest until you enter the destroyed ship, then you’ll want to take the southwest exit and follow the path along until you come across Astarion. This is another companion you can recruit, so be sure to save your game before attempting to speak with him. For now, backtrack slightly until you reach the coordinates X: 175 Y: 267.

You’ll now want to use the Jump ability and work your way down the cliff. If you choose to jump straight down, then you’ll take a lot of damage or worse kill yourself if you don’t have the Feather Fall skill. Walk across the water and you’ll find a small rock that is a completely different color to the rocks surrounding it. If you aren’t playing a strong character like a Barbarian, then you’ll want to switch over to Lae’zel and then hover over the rock with your mouse and simply drag it to the side to reveal the chest.

Inside you’ll obtain the following items: Ruby, Potion of Speed, 17 Gold, Harper’s Map and a Harper’s Notebook!
