What is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

By
Ben Chard

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake and was announced in the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration stream. This page will detail everything you need to know about the game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the title of the second part of the remake trilogy.

When does Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Release?

We don’t have an exact date for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth yet, but Square Enix have announced that it will release next Winter for PS5. This means we’re looking at the months of December, January, and February and with Final Fantasy XVI releasing in the Summer of 2023, we’re putting our bets on Rebirth releasing in January or February 2024.

What do we know about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced as part of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration stream on Thursday 16th June 2022. It was revealed that this is the official title for the second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Based on what little we know so far, it looks like the game opens up with the events at Kalm following the gang’s departure of Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Square Enix have said that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed with new players in mind, so that they can begin the journey with this part and still get a fulfilling and exciting experience. We expect most of you will have played Final Fantasy VII Remake, however, and we certainly encourage you to do so (that’s what this guide is for after all).

Of course, with the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be giving Rebirth the full Gamer Guides treatment when it releases with expert strategies and many more you have come to expect from us so please be excited!

It looks like you’ll start Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with the flashback sequence of Cloud and Sephiroth.

How many parts is Final Fantasy VII Remake?

As part of the same announcement stream, Square Enix announced officially that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a trilogy, with Rebirth making up the second part of the trilogy. For those of you who played the original, you’ll be well aware that it came on three CDs, although Disc 1 provided the majority of the gameplay.

This is welcome news, as many fans speculated as to how many parts may be needed to cover the scope of this entire project, especially with the expansion that Square Enix gave to Midgar for Remake. This originally covered the first 10 or so hours in the original game but span many more hours in Remake so it remains to be seen where Rebirth will cover up to.

What Characters are in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

It’s still early days in terms of the cast, but we know at least that the core cast of Final Fantasy VII Remake are in. That means you can expect more Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and Red XIII. We’re hoping Red XIII will be playable at this point and it remains to be seen if Yuffie will be joining up with the cast during the events of Rebirth.
