FF16 - Blacksmith's Blues II Side Quest Walkthrough

By
Ben Chard

The Blacksmith’s Blues line of Side Quests are some of the most lucrative in the game, and you’ll want to complete them as soon as possible. This page will navigate you through all of the steps of accepting and completing the Blacksmith’s Blues II Side Quest.

Read the letter in Clive’s Quarters to accept the Blacksmith’s Blues II Side Quest in FF16.

Clive receives a letter from August asking him to help cheer Blackthorne up again. What could be the matter with him this time?

How to Start the Blacksmith’s Blues II Side Quest in FF16

Before you can begin the Blacksmith’s Blues II Side Quest you’ll need to progress through the game until you reach the Out of the Shadows Main Quest. During this Quest, you’ll have to perform a series of tasks for Mid and once those are complete, you’ll find that a bunch of letters have been sent to Clive’s desk.

Three of these will offer a Side Quest to undertake, but for Blacksmith’s Blues II, you’ll want to read the “About Blackthorne” missive, in which you’ll discover that "August" iconAugust needs Clive’s help once again in getting to the bottom of what is bothering "Blackthorne" iconBlackthorne this time. Accept the Quest and then make your way over to the Forge to speak with him and learn what ails him.

(1 of 2) Speak to !Charon to learn about the client

Speak to !Charon to learn about the client (left), then head to the Dalimil Inn to meet with them. (right)

Once again, go and speak to "Charon" iconCharon to learn more of the sword that Blackthorne mentioned and she will direct you to a man named Ignac, who you can find at the Dalimil Inn over in Dhalmekia. Head upstairs to the room that Joshua was in previously and you’ll meet with Ignac, who seems to have no time for Clive at this moment in time due to a theft.

How to Retrieve Ignac’s stolen items from the bandits

Clive, being the people person that he is, opts to recover the stolen goods in order to get an audience with Ignac so he can discuss the sword with him.

Leave the Dalimil Inn and exit the settlement via the north exit to return to the "Velkroy Desert" iconVelkroy Desert. Your target is far to the northeast of this vast expanse so jump on your Chocobo and make for the northeast and you’ll eventually find the bandit’s camp. It looks like you’re not getting those supplies back without a fight!

How to defeat The Innkeeper and bandits

You’ll be immediately thrust into a battle against a group of Bedmakers and The Innkeeper, the main target here. Ignore him to begin with though and deal with the Bedmakers so that you don’t need to worry about them slinging spells at you while you focus on the Innkeeper.

(1 of 3) The Innkeeper uses slow and heavy attacks

You should have fought plenty of enemies like the Innkeeper by now, he’s just your typical large humanoid with an axe and all of the same strategies apply. Keep up close and avoid the slow melee attacks by either dodging or using "Titanic Block" iconTitanic Block and he should go down in no time.

You’ll automatically return to Ignac at the Dalimil Inn following the battle, and you’ll learn more about how the sword was crafted while obtaining a Sundered Whetstone. Bring this with you back to Blackthorne to complete the Quest and obtain 900 XP, 30 Renown, a "Meteorite" iconMeteorite and the "Excalibur Design Draft" iconExcalibur Design Draft. This will allow you to forge the "Excalibur" iconExcalibur, a powerful weapon for this stage of the game.
