FF16 - A Tail to Tell Side Quest Walkthrough

By
Shane Williams

The A Tail to Tell side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired at The Hideaway once you reach the Back to their Origin main quest. Here you’ll find the Making Amends Letter in Clive’s Chambers. He’ll request that you do him a favor that concerns Prince Dion. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and how to defeat the Akashic Lindwurm.

Read the Making Amends Letter in Clive’s Chambers to begin this quest.

Clive receives a letter from Harpocrates that suggests the historian and Prince Dion have a closer relationship than he knew. He journeys to the shelves in search of answers.

How to Start the A Tail to Tell Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16

First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Streets of Madness, and be on Back to their Origin, then you’ll want to complete the side quest An Inconvenient Truth. When those requirements have been met, head over to Clive’s Chambers in "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway and read the letter Making Amends to begin this side quest. You’ll now want to visit The Shelves and speak with Harpocrates to see what he needs.

Where to Find the Akashic Lindwurm in FF16

Once you’re done speaking with Harpocrates, fast travel to the "Eistla" iconEistla "Obelisk" iconObelisk and head west until you reach the center of The Angry Gap sub-region (Rikmal’s Roost), then you’ll stumble across an "Akashic" iconAkashic Lindwurm. This is an elite enemy, so you’ll want to work on staggering it, so use Zantetsuken to increase your gauge to level 5, then chip away at the stagger bar with "Magic Burst" iconMagic Burst and other single target attacks like "Heatwave" iconHeatwave until "Diamond Dust" iconDiamond Dust becomes available again.

After you’ve staggered, Akashic Lindwurm stick down "Lightning Rod" iconLightning Rod in front of it, then activate your "Limit Break" iconLimit Break before unleashing Zantetsuken and "Gigaflare" iconGigaflare. This should take it down to around the 50% mark, so you’ll want to repeat this process once more to finish it off. Whilst you’re trying to take it down you’ll want to watch out for the following attacks below:

(1 of 2) Keep your distance to avoid the swipe attack.

Keep your distance to avoid the swipe attack. (left), !Dodge to the side to avoid the charge attack. (right)

  • Swipe - Akashic Lindwurm will lunge towards you and will attempt to swipe you with its claw.
  • Charge - Akashic Lindwurm will charge towards you.

After you’ve defeated the Akashic Lindwurm, pick up the Wild "Wyvern Tail" iconWyvern Tails from the ground, then you may want to head south and complete the The Hand of Rhea Chronolith Trial, as this will reward you with the Will of Ice (Diamond Dust), a powerful Accessory that increases the damage of it by 10%. Finally, return to The Hideaway and give Harpocrates the tails, then talk to Dion who can be found out on the Boarding Deck to bring the quest to close. Here you’ll be rewarded with the Bahamut’s Mercy Accessory which reduces the cooldown of Gigaflare by 6.0 seconds and the Stolas Quill Curiosity.

Other Side Quests in The Hideaway

As you’re playing through the Main Quest you’ll find more Side Quests pop up in the Hideaway, so it’s a good idea to check back often. Below is a list of all the currently available Side Quests:
