FF16 - The Weight of Command Side Quest Walkthrough

By
Shane Williams

The Weight of Command side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired in "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway once you reach the Bolts from the Blue main quest. Here you’ll find a person named "Dorys" iconDorys and she needs your help finding some Cursebreakers. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and where to find "Cole" iconCole’s Party.

Speak with Dorys to begin this quest.

Cole and the party of Cursebreakers under his command have been attacked somewhere near "Northreach" iconNorthreach and Dorys seeks Clive’s assistance in learning their fate.

How to Start The Weight of Command in Final Fantasy 16

First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Capital Punishment, and be on the Bolts from the Blue. When those requirements have been met, head over to Dorys in the Boarding Deck and she’ll ask you for a favor. She’ll mention that a bunch of Cursebreakers went out on a mission in Northreach and hasn’t come back after being attacked, so she wants you to see if they’ve made it.

Where to Find Cole’s Party

After you’ve finished speaking with Dorys, fast travel to Northreach, then head east until you reach the Mortfield sub-region to find Cole and his Cursebreakers sitting beside a rock. You’ll discover that they weren’t able to save some of the bearers, as they were reluctant to run, so its down to you to rescue the rest. Head south of your current location and you’ll come across a cart which is surrounded by some Goblin Leechers and a "Gigas" iconGigas Bruiser.

Here you’ll want to ignore the large enemy for now and instead group up the smaller enemies and use your AoE (Area of Effect) Abilities, such as "Aerial Blast" iconAerial Blast and "Earthen Fury" iconEarthen Fury to deplete their health, then finish them off with a simple magic burst. Once it’s just you and the Gigas Bruiser things will get a bit more trickier as he has stronger attacks and more health then the regular enemies, so you’ll want to make use of magic bursts to get his health down to the half-stagger point, then pull him down to the ground using "Deadly Embrace" iconDeadly Embrace.

At this point you’ll want to use "Gouge" iconGouge and "Raging Fists" iconRaging Fists to stagger him before he gets back up. Once you’ve staggered him, you’ll want to use "Lightning Rod" iconLightning Rod in front of and activate your "Limit Break" iconLimit Break, then use all of your abilities at once to deal large amounts of damage. As for attacks Gigas can perform a ground slam where he’ll lift his weapon above his head and slam it down directly in front of him, so you’ll want to be standing to the side to avoid this. Throughout the battle he’ll perform “Big Swing” which will involve him swinging his weapon around in a circle repeatedly whilst moving towards you, so you’ll want to keep your distance until he stops. Whilst avoiding these attacks you’ll want to repeat the process and you should take him down after two staggers.

Once you’ve cleared out the enemies a cutscene will play out where Clive convinces them to choose the life of freedom and use this chance to flee. Following the scene, return to the Hideaway and speak with Dorys to bring the quest to a close and you’ll be rewarded with "Sharp Fang" iconSharp Fang x40, "Steelsilk" iconSteelsilk x40 and The Breath of Fire (Rising Flame) Accessory which reduces the cooldown time by 2.0 seconds.
