How to Craft the Ultima Weapon in FF16

By
Matt Chard

When it comes to iconic weapons in the Final Fantasy series none are more prominent than the Ultima Weapon. This is often the most powerful weapon and it’s no different with Final Fantasy 16. One thing that is different though, is you can’t acquire the weapon until you’re on New Game Plus while also being on the harder difficulty, Final Fantasy Mode. Read below to find out exactly what you need to do to obtain the Ultima Weapon.

The Ultima Weapon can only be acquired during New Game Plus.

Is there an Ultima Weapon in FF16 (FFXVI)?

If you’ve only played through the game once, or you’re near completion, you’ll realize that the Ultima Weapon is nowhere to be seen. That is because it can only be obtained in New Game Plus on Final Fantasy Mode. When you begin a new game in this mode and reach "Blackthorne" iconBlackthorne for the first time, you’ll be able to see it listed in the weapon tab, under the craft section.

If you hover over the weapon, you’ll see that you need three things to craft it, an Utterance of Creation which you will already have, and two other weapons displayed as a ???, and you won’t know what they are until later on unless you read below.

How to Craft the Ultima Weapon in FF16 (FFXVI)

As stated above, you won’t be able to craft the weapon until near the end of the game after you defeat Barnabas (Odin) in The Last King quest again in New Game Plus. That is because the other two weapons you need to complete the creation of the Ultima Weapon are the Gotterdammerung Reforged and the Everdark Reforged. Read below to find out how you craft these two weapons.

Crafting the Gotterdammerung Reforged

You’ll need both the Gotterdammerung Reforged, and the Everdark Reforged to craft the Ultima Weapon.

First things first, you’ll need to complete all four Blacksmith’s Blues side quests again to obtain the Gotterdammerung Reforged Design (Blueprint) which can be accessed during these story missions:

Once you’ve completed all the quests, you’ll be able to craft the reforged version of the Gotterdammerung provided you have the required materials which are:

  • "Orichalcum" iconOrichalcum x4 - You can find where to find the Orichalcum here.
  • Flawless Darksteel x2 - You can find all the Flawless Darksteel locations here.
  • Flawless Battlehorn x1 - You can find the Flawless Battlehorn here.

Crafting the Everdark Reforged

Crafting the Everdark Reforged requires you to defeat each and every Eikon boss including Odin in New Game Plus. The reason for this is that to craft the Everdark Reforged, you’ll need the materials from all the Eikons which are only dropped from the story missions. You’ll be crafting their weapons in the same order as last time, just make sure you don’t sell any as you’ll need them to craft the next weapon. Here is the order that you’ll get the weapons.

Once you’ve acquired the Icebrand Reforged and the Flawless Dark Shard from Odin you’ll have everything you need to craft the Everdark Reforged.

Crafting the Ultima Weapon - Finishing Touch

With both the Gotterdammerung Reforged and Everdark Reforged in your inventory, head over to Blackthorne, click the Craft menu, and go to the weapons tab to finally craft the Ultima Weapon. Congratulations!
