How to Unlock the Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeift Trophy in FF16

By
Scott Peers

The Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeift trophy, aside from having one of the most ridiculous names among all trophies, is one of the easiest to unlock in Final Fantasy 16. You can work on it almost from the beginning of the game, since the skill required to complete it is available near the start of the story. To unlock it, you need to perform 15 Shift Strikes or Shift Shots, which can be done using the "Phoenix Shift" iconPhoenix Shift skill. We’ll show you exactly how to execute both of these attacks on this page.

How to Perform a Shift Strike or Shift Shot in Final Fantasy 16

The first thing you need to understand about the Shift Strike and Shift Shot skills is that you can only execute them by using the Phoenix Shift ability. As mentioned above, this will be available to you early on in the game, so you’ll have plenty of time to practice it as soon as you begin to encounter enemies. You don’t need to purchase the ability either, since it’s available as the default Phoenix "Eikon" iconEikon ability.

If you use Phoenix Shift on its own by pressing DualSense-ButtonCircle, you’ll essentially teleport from your position towards the enemy that you have selected. This is a good way to get into melee range quickly, and to potentially avoid attacks from the side at the same time. However, a Shift Strike or Shift Shot is only performed if you press DualSense-ButtonSquare or DualSense-ButtonTriangle respectively after executing a Phoenix Shift. The former will hit the enemy with a more powerful melee attack, while the latter will burst a shot of fire magic damage.

!Phoenix Shift is available from the beginning of the game, and it has multiple forms to master in melee and ranged combat.

In most cases both Shift Strike and Shift Shot won’t do anything more than damage the enemy, but if you hit an opponent which has a stagger bar and it happens to deplete the bar with the hit, they’ll be knocked back slightly in the process. You only need to perform either of these 15 times, so you don’t need to use them 15 times each, for the trophy to unlock.

Aerial Shift Strike and Shot

As noted in the tip above, there are other variants of this skill which are executed depending on how and when you use it. The Aerial Shift variants are easy to execute, since all you need to do is press DualSense-ButtonCross to jump into the air, then execute Phoenix Shift by pressing DualSense-ButtonCircle while you’re still in the air, followed by either DualSense-ButtonSquare or DualSense-ButtonTriangle depending on whether you want the melee or ranged variant.

Both Aerial Shift Strike and Shot are useful to use at the beginning of a fight if you want to execute a combo while airborne, but keep in mind that not all enemies are vulnerable to these attacks, since some can’t be lifted in the air by them. In general, the smaller, weaker enemies can be lifted in the air by these skills, but not larger ones such as "Bighorns" iconBighorns.

(1 of 2) You can perform a Shift Strike or Shot from the ground to close in on an enemy.

And there you have it! Just execute 15 of these skills to unlock the trophy, which you’re likely to do even without thinking about it as you play through the game, so long as you make good use of Phoenix Shift. It’s a useful ability which should not be overlooked, especially when it comes to the airborne variants.
