Infernal Eikon Boss Guide in FF16

By
Jarrod Garripoli

During the Buried Memories main quest, you will face the Infernal Eikon boss, who is the second of three bosses you will face during this story quest. It involves a big change in Clive’s character, and will be fighting the third boss right after, with no break at all. It is imperative that you prepare for back-to-back boss battles, if you wish to do so without having to retry.

Yep, the Infernal Eikon definitely looks familiar.

How to Beat the Infernal Eikon in Final Fantasy 16

The Infernal Eikon is an annoying boss, simply because one of its moves will require you to back away from it, and it does this move quite often. That means being aggressive and keeping in melee range is not really an option here, so you will want to stick to long-ranged abilities and magic for those times.

All Infernal Eikon Attacks in Final Fantasy XVI

The following is a list of all the attacks you will face during the Infernal Eikon boss battle.

Crimson Rush

(1 of 2) Crimson Rush will be the first attack the boss does at the beginning of the battle.

The Infernal Eikon will start the battle by using this move, where it will slightly charge some power, then dash in a straight line across the battlefield. It will leave a short-lasting trail of fire, too, so be careful with the direction you dodge. While the attack is executed quickly, and considering the size of the boss, it’s still easy enough to avoid.

Foot Stomp

The Infernal Eikon, when you are close enough for a while, will lift up one of its feet, then slam it on the ground, causing a small explosion around it. If you see a leg going up, then just go to the opposite side of the body, which should be far enough to avoid this attack.

Vulcan Burst

This is the very annoying attack mentioned above, as the boss will use it quite often. The boss will gather some power and you will see the ground around it start to glow. This glowing area will erupt with fire, so you will need to get out of it before you’re caught up in the explosion. There’s really nothing you can do, although the boss will be sitting still for a few seconds after using it.

(1 of 4) Vulcan Burst is the worst move in the boss’ arsenal, as it keeps you out of melee range.

Inferno Claw Sweep

Another melee move that the Infernal Eikon can perform is a sweeping strike with either of its claws. Of course, being a fire creature, the claw will come with some fiery goodness, but you should be used to these kinds of attacks by now.

Scorched Earth

For this attack, the boss might typically jump away from your position, then punch the ground, sending a line of fire in your direction. You’ve seen enough of these types of attacks at this point, so you know what to do. You should be able to easily dodge it by going to either side.

Fire Rain

This attack seems to happen more often if you keep your distance from the boss. It will use one of its hands to just toss a bunch of fireballs at your direction. The biggest problem here is that the pattern seems to be actually random, so you won’t have a surefire way to actually dodge all of the fireballs.

Strategy for the Inferno Eikon Boss in FFXVI

The Inferno Eikon is a pretty big target, but if you decide to lock onto it, a lot of your attacks are going to miss, because the game will focus on the body. Thus, to make things easier on yourself, you shouldn’t lock on at all for this boss. Despite being a fire boss, there actually doesn’t seem to be any elemental affinities, so you’re free to use any and all skills for this battle. Most of the attacks from this boss aren’t too bad, but there’s definitely a lot of added effects to them.

(1 of 2) Locking on is probably not the best idea for this battle.

By far, the worst move is Vulcan Burst, as it limits you from staying in melee range. As son as you see the ground light up around the boss, you should back away, to avoid taking damage. Since the boss uses this pretty often, that leaves you to use magic more often than not, as well as ranged abilities. "Heatwave" iconHeatwave can be a good skill to use here, especially since staying at ranged will trigger Fire Rain more often. Outside of those, though, there’s nothing else really special about the boss, so just bring its HP down to zero, then get ready for the second battle
