How to Unlock the Never Coming Down Trophy in FF16

By
Jarrod Garripoli

There are a number of combat-related trophies in Final Fantasy XVI, with Never Coming Down being one of them. In order to unlock this trinket, you will need to perform "Gouge" iconGouge, "Wicked Wheel" iconWicked Wheel, and "Rook's Gambit" iconRook’s Gambit in midair before landing on the ground. This is a little challenging, as you can normally only equip two abilities per Eikon, and you need three from the same one for it. You will be unable to unlock this in the Hall of Virtue, which is a training area and is the case for all of the combat-related trophies.

How to Earn the Never Coming Down Trophy in Final Fantasy XVI

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to use three abilities in midair, all in a row, before landing on the ground. These abilities are Gouge, Wicked Wheel, and Rook’s Gambit. As you can see, they are the three abilities that are a part of "Garuda" iconGaruda’s set. Of course, if you look at your loadout, you will notice a problem, as you can only set two abilities at once. You are also unable to switch out abilities during a battle, since the game doesn’t allow you to do so.

So, how are you able to achieve this feat then? Well, if you press DualSense-ButtonTriangle on any of the abilities in the skill tree, you should see that the Mastery upgrade allows you to equip it on other "Eikon" iconEikons. Essentially, part of this trophy comes down to earning enough AP to upgrade and master one of the three abilities first, so you likely aren’t getting this right away, when you first unlock them. Of the three abilities, Wicked Wheel is actually the least expensive to fully master, with it costing 1525 AP (Gouge is only 50 AP more).

Once you have gotten one of the abilities mastered, you can set the two non-mastered abilities to the Garuda Eikon, then place the mastered one on Phoenix (or any other Eikons you might have unlocked). From there, you just need to find an enemy to perform all three attacks on them. Preferably, you’d want an enemy that doesn’t move around a lot, plus has enough health to withstand all three attacks. That means something with a stagger bar is ideal, and there’s plenty of those enemies littered throughout the various areas.

(1 of 2) Wicked Wheel is the cheapest option to master of the three abilities.

One of the better enemies for this trophy is the Bighorn that is found in the "Three Reeds" iconThree Reeds area, by the same named "Obelisk" iconObelisk. It will be in the open field just beyond the obelisk, so head there to find it. Once you do, you will want to get ready to focus on this trophy. The order in which you do the abilities is a little important, since you need to stay in the air for all three. The ideal order is Wicked Wheel -> Rook’s Gambit -> Gouge. The reason for this is that Wicked Wheel will give you more air time, allowing you to perform the other two moves. Also, Gouge is a pretty long ability, and your air time will decrease as you keep pressing the button for more hits.

It might be a good idea to change the order of your Eikons around, so the one with Wicked Wheel is first, then you only have to switch one time to get to the other two abilities. To do this, on the Gear & Eikons screen, press the DualSense-ButtonSquare button to switch the order of your Eikons. It’s important to remember that all of the moves will require you to connect at least one hit. So, if you complete whiff on one of the abilities, then you won’t unlock the trophy.
