By
Jessica Dillon

Once you get close to the end of Final Fantasy XVI’s main story, several side quests will unlock. An Inconvenient Truth is one that helps to wrap up Vivian’s character arc. During this quest, you will be visiting Waloed again to find a book called From a Distance. The walkthrough below goes over how to start An Inconvenient Truth, and where to find !From a Distance in Final Fantasy XVI.

Check Clive’s reading table to find Vivian’s Missive.

How to Start the An Inconvenient Truth Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16

An Inconvenient Truth can be started after you have reached the Back to Their Origin main quest. Once you’ve reached this point, return to "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway, go into Clive’s room, and check the reading table. Here you will see a letter from Vivian and can choose whether to accept the quest or not. Keep in mind that you can’t progress much further into the story, or you will reach the point of no return and no longer be able to accept or finish any of the side quests that you have already started. When you’re ready to proceed, go down to the usual spot near the Hunt Board and speak with Vivian.

Where to Find the From a Distance Book in FF16

Vivian will tell you about a missing book and send you to speak with Harpocrates at his desk in The Hideaway. He will tell you that he had a friend in Waloed who may have a copy of the book and send you to the town of "Garnick" iconGarnick to look for it. To get here, teleport to the Vidargraes "Obelisk" iconObelisk, and then head towards the quest marker. The town will be filled with "Akashic" iconAkashic Miners, so be ready for an easy fight. Just use your Eikonic abilities to quickly take them out, and head to the large house in the center of town. If you haven’t already been here, then be sure to grab the chest on the side of the large house before entering. It can be found to the left of the door and it has a "High Potion" iconHigh Potion and 20x Spools of "Steelsilk" iconSteelsilk inside of it.

Go in through the front door, you will see several searchable areas in the house, each with a bit of lore about the world. Be sure to grab the chest in the center with an "Empty Shard" iconEmpty Shard, 20x "Bloody Hide" iconBloody Hides, and 20x Steelsilk inside of it. The !From a Distance book can be found in the back corner of the house. Once you get, it go back through the front door and you will be confronted by the Executors and a fight will follow. Be sure to take out the three Inquisitor Aides and then aim for the Inquisitor himself. He is a larger enemy but his attacks are nothing special so just dodge when he swings his axe.

(1 of 9) Speak with both Vivian and !Harpocrates.

Once you’ve taken out the enemies, go back to The Hideaway. You will want to speak with Vivian again and after handing the book over, her character arc will be wrapped up. For your troubles, you will receive 5,600 XP, 30 Renown, and a Scholar’s Bonet. The Scholar’s Bonet will be placed on the trophy wall in Clive’s room. Now is also a good time to check around The Hideaway and complete the other character related quests that have appeared.
