Every Damn Sinew - FF16 Trophy Unlock Guide

By
Nathan Garvin

The Every Damn Sinew trophy is one of the many trophies you can earn in Final Fantasy XVI by demonstrating your prowess with an "Eikon" iconEikon’s abilities. In this case, you’ll need to Land a Lv.2 or higher Zantetsuken five times (excluding battles in the Hall of Virtue). This page will provide tips and strategies for unlocking the Fistful of Steel trophy in Final Fantasy 16.

The only ability you really need is !Odin’s Eikonic feat, !Arm of Darkness.

How to Get the Odin Eikon in Final Fantasy 16

Fans of the Final Fantasy series will recognize Zantetsuken - the ability you need to use to unlock this trophy - as the signature move of "Odin" iconOdin, and sure enough you’ll need to acquire Odin’s powers before you can start making progress on this trophy. Unfortunately, Odin is the last Eikon you’ll acquire - to obtain Odin’s abilities you’ll need to complete the main quest The Last King, at which point you’ll have only two main quests where you’re really free to travel and explore - Brotherhood and Back to Their Origin. A lot of new side quests and hunts unlock near the end of the game, however, and Zantetsuken is one of the most potent abilities in the game, so you’ve got plenty of incentive to try it out.

Like the other Odin-related trophy, Fistful of Steel, you’ll be using Odin’s Eikonic Feat, "Arm of Darkness" iconArm of Darkness, to perform Zantetsuken attacks. This means you don’t have to spend a whole lot of Ability Points to unlock or upgrade this ability (none, actually), but you must have Odin equipped

How to Unlock the Every Damn Sinew Trophy in Final Fantasy 16

Once you’ve obtained the Odin Eikon, equip it and take a gander at the abilities it provides via the Abilities menu. The one of interest to us is Arm of Darkness, the topmost icon that denotes the Eikonic Feat, and Arm of Darkness bears some similarities to "Bahamut" iconBahamut’s "Wings of Light" iconWings of Light ability inasmuch as it’s an ability you have to activate and charge. Unlike the aforementioned Wings of Light, however, you’re charging the Zantetsuken gauge, not the Megaflare gauge, and you do so by various means - mostly landing sword strikes in combat, but also by performing Flashes of Steel or Steel Counters (counterattack with DualSense-ButtonSquare after performing a "Precision Dodge" iconPrecision Dodge or parry).

It’s really just that simple, equip the Odin Eikon and make sure it’s your active Eikon, then press DualSense-ButtonCircle in combat to summon Odin’s blade via the Arm of Darkness ability. Attack enemies until the gauge is charged to Lv.2 - a fairly trivial feat that only take a few normal attack combos, then hold down the DualSense-ButtonSquare button until your normal attack action changed to Zantetsuken - readying Zantetsuken takes a moment, during which you’re vulnerable, but time stops when you’re actually using the attack. The Zantetsuken gauge depletes when Zantetsuken is used and must be refilled for each Zantetsuken attack you wish to perform.

You can also purchase and upgrade Odin’s "Dancing Steel" iconDancing Steel ability (mastering it costs a whopping 8,515 Ability Points!) which significantly charges the Zantetsuken gauge when used - one use of Dancing Steel should easily get you to Lv.3 Zantetsuken. Just be wary, as the timing is a bit tricky - you’ll need to be fairly close to an enemy and pull off the first flurry of attacks, after which time will stop like with Zantetsuken and the rest of the attack will go off without a hitch. If you can’t make contact with the first flurry or you get staggered during it, the Dancing Steel will end prematurely with little effect, wasting the cooldown. Using "Will-o'-the-Wykes" iconWill-o’-the-Wykes to absorb hits while charging either Dancing Steel or Zantetsuken makes this process a whole lot simpler.

However you go about charging the Zantetsuken gauge, use five Zantetsuken attacks at Lv.2 or higher and this trophy should pop.
