Gold Medal Checklist:
- Plant the dynamite within 1 minute 35 seconds
- Escape the oncoming train within 18 seconds
Following the completion of The Delights of Van Horn, you’ll find John up at Bacchus Station. Although looking at the objectives may give you the illusion that this is an easy Gold Medal, it’s far from it. The time requirements for the first objective is incredibly tight to the point that if Arthur’s animation plays out in certain ways, it’s impossible to complete.
Get on the hand car and you’ll get a short tutorial on how it operates, hold the [X]/[A] button in when Arthur is pressing the bar down. Alternatively, and more easily, take a look in the bottom right of the screen, the button icon will light up when you need to hold it in. This is good practice for the final part of this mission so try to get to grips with it now. Once John heads down below, get off the hand car and pick up a crate of explosives, heading to the side to lower it by following the onscreen instructions. Climb down the ladder yourself after the second crate and get ready for a tough objective.
You now have just 45 seconds to plant three bundles of dynamite on the marked struts of the bridge. You’ll have to be perfect in your placing to the point that if Arthur has to reposition himself, you’ll be too late. Be prepared to press the [Square]/[X] button as you approach the marker to save yourself time, likewise when going to retrieve the next explosive. You’ll want to tackle the markers in order of nearest to furthest to save the most time, after that, you’re at the mercy of the animations. You’ll most likely have to repeat this more than a few times before you finally nail it.
John needs urgent assistance following the placement of the last bundle as a train is fast approaching. Quickly climb back up the ladder and jump back on to the hand car to begin your escape. You’ll have to do this within 18 seconds which is more than enough time providing you ignore John and Arthur and look to the button icon, holding the button as it lights up. Following the near death experience, follow John to the detonator and use it to blow the bridge.
