Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Best Meowscarada Build

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on the best build for Meowscarada in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Meowscarada is the final evolution of Sprigatito, the Grass Starter Pokémon. This page will detail the strongest moveset, held item and ability to ensure that you have the best Meowscarada around! Below we’ll provide information for both a Dark Dark build and a Grass Grass build!

Meowscarada is a powerful Grass and Dark type Pokémon.

Best Meowscarada Grass Build - Moveset, Held Item & Nature

Tera Nature EV Focus Ability Moveset Held Item
Grass Jolly/Adamant Physical Attack and Speed Overgrow Flower Trick, "Knock Off" iconKnock Off, "Play Rough" iconPlay Rough, "Grassy Terrain" iconGrassy Terrain "Miracle Seed" iconMiracle Seed

For this build, it’s all about maxing Grass damage and increasing the damage of physical attacks. The Jolly Nature increases speed whilst the Adamant increases physical damage - both will decrease Special Attack. If your Meowscarada isn’t the right nature, you can use Adamant or "Jolly Mint" iconJolly Mints to change its nature - head over to our guide on Nature Mints for more information.

The held item "Miracle Seed" iconMiracle Seed will boost the power of grass type moves by 20%, and it can be obtained from the "Delibird" IconDelibird Presents in Mesagoza.

Meowscarada Grass Build Moveset

The star of the show in this build is Meowscarada’s signature STAB move Flower Trick, which it will learn at level as soon as it evolves from Floragato. It’s a powerful signature move that damage and always hits, unless the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move such as "Dig" iconDig or "Fly" iconFly. It always results in a critical hit unless the target has Battle Armor or Shell Armor.

"Grassy Terrain" iconGrassy Terrain be useful for upping the damage of Flower Trick. Grassy Terrain will create a terrain on the battlefield that boosts Grass-type moves by 50% for 5 turns.

"Knock Off" iconKnock Off is a dark type move that Meowscarada learns at level 52. When used it’ll make the target’s Held Item unusable for the duration of the battle (even when switched out!). This is situational but can make for a powerful counter against Pokémon that might have stat boosting items! Meowscarada learns Knock Off at level 52.

"Play Rough" iconPlay Rough is a great final move because it’s a fairy-type damaging move. Having Play Rough will allow your Meowscarada to do x2 damage to Fighting, Dark and Dragon-type Pokémon. This is especially useful when facing a Dragon type as Grass-type moves only do x0.5 damage! Meowscarada learns Play Rough at level 47.

Best Meowscarada Dark Build - Moveset, Held Item & Nature

Tera Nature EV Focus Ability Moveset Held Item
Dark Jolly/Adamant Attack and Speed Protean Flower Trick, "Knock Off" iconKnock Off / Hone Claws, Night Slash, "Play Rough" iconPlay Rough "Life Orb" iconLife Orb

For this build, you’ll likely need to make a few changes to your typical Meowscarada. For starters, you’ll want the Dark tera type and to unlock the hidden ability, Protean. Protean means that, once per switch in, Meowscarada will change its type to match the same type as the move it’s using. So if you use a Fairy type move, Meowscarada will temporarily become a Fairy type Pokémon! It will not change the tera type though. So, if you find yourself up against a Pokémon that hammers Grass or Dark type, you can use it to either become just a Grass or Dark type (or something else entirely different) to avoid taking x2 damage.

Ability Patches are obtained from 6-Star Tera Raids.

You can change your Meowscarada’s tera type using a "Dark Tera Shard" iconDark Tera Shard and you can unlock its hidden ability using "Ability Patch" iconAbility Patches - both of these things are obtained from doing high level raids! Head over to our Ability Patches page and our Tera Shard page for more information on how to obtain these items!

"Life Orb" iconLife Orb is a held item that boosts the damage dealt by your Meowscarada’s damaging moves by 30%. This held item can be obtained from the Delibird Presents in Mesagoza.

Like the Grass build, you’ll either want to go for the Jolly or Adamant Nature to increase Speed or Physical Attack at the detriment of Special Attack damage.

Meowscarada Dark Build Moveset

This moveset still includes Flower Trick, and it will still be a great damaging move, however, this build also introduces a lot of strong dark type moves that’ll be useful against Pokémon that are weak to Dark-type moves.

Night Slash is a Dark type physical move that inflicts lots of damage and also has an increased critical hit ratio. Meowscarada learns Night Slash at level 38. Both Flower Trick and Night Slash will be impacted by Life Orb and will do increased damage.

Knock Off and Play Rough are still a part of this build as they are strong moves that increase the utility of your Meowscarada, especially when in a Tera Raid team. If you’d prefer to go all out damage, you could switch out Knock Off for Hone Claws, which allows you to raises Meowscarada’s Attack and accuracy by one stage each. Meowscarada learns Hone Claws at level 10.
