How to Get the Beast Ball in Scarlet & Violet

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for obtaining the "Beast Ball" iconBeast Ball in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

What is the Beast Ball?

The Beast Ball is a high-tech Poké Ball introduced in Pokémon Sun & Moon whose main purpose is capturing the Ultra Beasts. When used on an Ultra Beast, it provides the best chance of catching them. However, when used on regular Pokémon, they have an extremely low success rate.

If you want your hands on a Beast Ball, you’ve got your work cut out for you! It’s a reward from the Pokédex app for obtaining 400 volumes. This means catching/obtaining all 400 Pokémon in the Paldea Pokédex!

If you haven’t obtained any rewards from the Pokédex app before, open your "Rotom Phone" iconRotom Phone by pressing Joy-Con-ButtonY on the field. Select the main Pokédex along the top, to view the entire Pokédex. Now press Joy-Con-ButtonX to view and claim your rewards.

Best Use for the Beast Ball

To cut to the chase, there are no Ultra Beasts in Scarlet & Violet; you’re not supposed to use the Beast Ball for capturing Ultra Beasts in this game.

Instead, the Beast Ball mainly serves as a cosmetic Poké Ball. In other words, you can use it to catch an extra-special Pokémon, then marvel at or brag about its fancy Beast Ball.

Unlike the other cosmetic balls, the Beast Ball has an atrocious catch rate. So you may need to soft-reset and try again many, many times…

If you don’t care about cosmetics, you could just keep it as a trophy for your hard work. Or maybe offer it as a trade with somebody who does care.
