Shiny Sandwich Pokemon Guide: How Much Do Sandwiches Boost Your Shiny Rate?

The most important thing to know when shiny hunting with any Herba Mystica recipe is the maths. Here is the math. Just how much time can you save shiny hunting when making Sandwiches in Pokemon Violet and Pokemon Scarlet? Making a sparkling sandwich gives you three more rolls, increasing your roll total to four. Put into normal terms, you have a 1/1024 chance of encountering a shiny Pokemon when using this method alone.

What if you have recipe for the shiny charm or use mass outbreaks though? Then how do your odds even out? Below we have a table displaying how to get the lowest number of encounters needed to find a shiny Pokemon.

Method Shiny Chance
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich 1/1024
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich + Outbreak (30 Pokemon Beaten) 1/819
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich + Outbreak (60 Pokemon Beaten) 1/ 683
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich + "Shiny Charm" iconShiny Charm 1/683
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich + "Shiny Charm" iconShiny Charm + Outbreak (30 Pokemon Beaten) 1/585
Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich + "Shiny Charm" iconShiny Charm + Outbreak (60 Pokemon Beaten) 1/512

As you can see, using the Shiny Charm has the biggest effect on shiny hunting. Since this item can’t be obtained before you feel the Paldea Pokedex, Sandwiches are your best bet, as they are more effective than just clearing out Pokemon from mass outbreaks.

With that being said, if you’re not just ok with going along with whatever Pokemon decides to outbreak, you will want to make sandwiches that not only increase the shiny rate but increase the spawn rate for the Pokemon you are looking for.

If you don’t like your current mass outbreaks but are interested in resetting them. Simply move your clock to the next day on your Nintendo Switch.
