How to Get a Covert Cloak in Scarlet & Violet

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for obtaining a "Covert Cloak" iconCovert Cloak in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

What is a Covert Cloak

Covert Cloak protects your Pokémon from the additional effects of the opponent’s moves.

Covert Cloak is a new hold item with a powerful effect: it prevents the secondary effects of the opponent’s moves from affecting your Pokémon.

This hold item functions a bit like the Sheer Force ability in reverse. It can negate status ailments from moves like Nuzzle, "Flamethrower" iconFlamethrower, "Ice Beam" iconIce Beam, etc. Plus trapping effects from "Fire Spin" iconFire Spin, "Sand Tomb" iconSand Tomb, etc. Furthermore, it prevents flinching from moves like Fake Out and "Rock Slide" iconRock Slide!

However, it doesn’t work for primary effects. So moves like "Thunder Wave" iconThunder Wave will still Paralyze and "Confuse Ray" iconConfuse Ray will still cause confusion, since that’s their main purpose.
