By
Shane Williams

This is a guide for defeating Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. We have details on where to find it, what Pokémon we recommend you bring along and ultimately, how to defeat it.

Bombirdier is a level 19 Flying Type.

Where to Find The Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan

Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan can be found by roaming around the West Province (Area One) which is reached by exiting the Naranja Academy via the west entrance. Alternatively, you can head northwest from the “West Province (Area One) - Central Pokémon Center. However, when you approach it you’ll need to avoid rocks falling down the mountain, so you’ll want to swerve out of the way and use the rocks along the way, as cover.

When to Fight the Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan

Ideally, you should attempt the Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan when you are at least Level 20.

Recommended Pokémon for the Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan

Bombirdier is a Flying Flying Dark Dark type, so you’ll ideally want to bring along a atleast one of Electric Electric Ice Ice Rock Rock. It doesn’t matter which of the three elements you choose as Bombirdier is weak to all three by the same amount. If you haven’t got you hands on any Electric Electric Ice Ice Rock Rock yet, then you should consider these options which you would’ve seen whilst adventuring towards the Open Sky Titan:

Pokemon Type
Pawmi Electric Electric
Shinx Electric Electric
Pichu Electric Electric
Nacli Rock Rock
Bonsly Rock Rock

Best Strategies for Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan

You’ll end up fighting Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan twice, although there’s a brief pause in-between the two fights, etc. If you’ve selected any of the Pokémon mentioned above, then some of these attacks will be useful for the upcoming battle. Nacli Rock Throw, Pawmi, "Thunder" iconThunder Shock.

(1 of 4) Bombirdier can use Pluck

For attacks Bombirdier can use Rock Throw, Pluck and Wing Attack which can deal decent damage to your Pokémon depending on your level and type, so throughout the battle you’ll want to make sure you keep topping up your health with "Potion" iconPotions or "Super Potion" iconSuper Potions to avoid it being defeated. Outside of the above attacks, Bombirdier can use Torment which will prevent your Pokémon from using the same attack twice.

Aditionally, you’ll want to avoid using Pokémon Types its strong against which are BugFighting and Grass. Unlike some of the Titans for example Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan, Bombirdier doesn’t have any attacks that can inflict stats, such as Speed Down nor can it use any attacks that improves its own stats, so that will make the battle slightly easier.

Round 2

Once you’ve taken Bombirdiers health down into the red it’ll flee and consume a "Bitter Herba Mystica" iconBitter Herba Mystica which will buff it up, but dont worry too much as Arven will be fighting alongside you this time with Nacli who is a Rock Rock type. Nacli will use Smack Down and Rock Throw which will deal a lot of damage due to it hitting its elemental weakness. Here you could just keep healing up your Pokémon and wait for Arven to finish Bombirdier off.

All of Bombirdier attacks in phase two are the same as phase one, but can just deal more damage, so you’ll want to make sure your Pokémons HP is topped up.

After the Battle

Upon defeating Bombirdier and completing the Flying Titan you’ll gain access to "Surf" iconSurf which is a new travel ability. This can be used by pressing Joy-Con-ButtonPlus button on the joycons or pro controller to hop onto Miraidon or Koraidon, then simply walk into a pool of water and you’ll automatically begin swimming. This will now allow you to find and catch Pokémon which can only be found in water.

You'll now have the ability to "Surf" iconSurf on your Legendary Pokémon!
