This is a guide for the The Illusion Returns quest in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Clearing this quest will let you begin Segiri’s Hero Quest.

How to Start The Illusion Returns Quest

Approach the question mark to start the quest

This quest is part of a longer chain involving the Mysterious Raider foes you’ve previously encountered. To make this quest appear, you must complete the following quests:

Once you have done the three quests above, you will be able to find this one in the Upper Aetia area. Specifically, head to the Gava Junction landmark to find yourself at a fork. Head south-southwest and you will eventually run into the ? that starts this quest. You may need to also have completed Side Story: Mio before you will be able to actually explore that area of the map.

How to Complete The Illusion Returns Quest

If you recall the previous quests related to the Mysterious Raiders, then this one will be very similar to those. Upon reaching the ? mark on the map, you will be ambushed by three Mysterious Raiders. These aren’t any different than the previous ones you’ve encountered in the other quests, so you should be fairly safe with the battle itself. They are all level 52, so you should be around the same level to make it an easier fight. Considering the enemies in the area are around level 54-55 or so, you might be a few levels higher than them.

(1 of 2) The Mysterious Raiders are bad to cause more trouble

The Mysterious Raiders are bad to cause more trouble (left), Fury Reaper can debuff your accuracy (right)

As with any battle with multiple enemies, you should issue to the order to concentrate on a single one until it goes down. This will help immensely in minimizing the damage your part takes, although the Raiders don’t appear to have any actual AoE attacks. One attack to be careful about, though, is Fury Reaper, as it will debuff your accuracy. They also seem to be able to inflict the Shackle Blocking debuff on you, although it’s not entirely sure if this comes from a skill or not. The battle should become a lot easier after bringing one of the Raiders down.

After the battle is over, there will be a scene and the quest will also finish. You will also automatically start the Hero Quest, Inhumanity.
