From Centro Keep, head south straight for Caldisla and then leg it to the royal palace. Don’t bother resting in the inn as you’ll be in no danger any time soon. Inside the palace, Tiz and company find a sight most ghastly.

Soon afterwards, they discover the king has been taken by the Eternians. Exit the palace and you’ll be taken to the inn; after some discussion, Edea will be the only one in the party. Lead Edea to the far west of town, where the orange exclamation mark is.

The next day, the party will regroup and be ready to set off to rescue the king. With Edea in tow, you just might be able to sneak into Lontano Villa–the Eternian stronghold.

During the early-game, Black Magic is your only way of manipulating elemental weaknesses and targetting the enemy’s Magic Defence stat.

Before you leave, you may wish to kit out Edea and grab some Black Magic scrolls in town. Prioritise the Fire and Thunder scrolls for now, as they’ll come in useful in Lontano Villa.

If you like to multi-mask, Agnes would make a good Black Mage, with White Magic as her Job Command. Otherwise you could make Edea a Black Mage to balance out the party (but be sure to give Ise-no-Kami to an appropriate physical attacker). Just bear in mind that Edea makes a better physical attacker than a mage.

Outside town, you’ll be taught about Special Moves and you’ll also be able to use them from now on. To configure Special Moves, go to “Special” in the main menu. At the beginning, you’ll only have the sword Special Move, “Hack and Slash”.

You can obtain more Special Moves and parts to customise your Special Moves by rebuilding the corresponding buildings in Norende village. Better get those StreetPass tags and update data frequently to get those Norende residents then!

Before beginning a boss battle, it’s a good idea to have Special Moves ready for all your characters.

Special Moves : These are powerful moves that inflict more damage than regular moves. Before you can use one, you must first fulfil certain conditions in battle–for Hack and Slash, you must Brave a total of 10 times. Then in battle, choose “Special” from the list of commands to let the enemy have it!

After using a Special Move, your party also receives a stat bonus while the Special Move music is playing. You can chain together Special Moves to keep the music playing and your stat bonus for longer. Before a boss battle, try to keep some Special Moves in reserve to deal some heavy damage at any time.
