EX Royal Guard Rumors

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page will offer a walkthrough on the DLC side quest EX Royal Guard Rumors. This set of three hidden treasures is a part of the second DLC, which is available by purchasing the Expansion Pass for Breath of the Wild.

How to Start EX Royal Guard Rumors

To begin this quest, you’ll need to find clues to the whereabouts of the Royal Guard armor. The journal that holds the clues is found at the Riverside Stable, Hyrule Field. You’ll get a clue about the Royal Guard armor from the journal on a table inside the stable.

(1 of 2) The clue journal is found in Riverside Stable

The clue journal is found in Riverside Stable (left), and it gives clues to all three Royal Guard armor pieces. (right)

EX Royal Guard Armor Locations

Once you’ve read the journal you’ll be given the clue that “a uniform once belonging to the royal guards who protected the royal family. It can supposedly be found in treasure chests hidden near the dining hall, in the guards’ chamber, and on the second floor.” Each of the armor pieces can be found in Hyrule Castle. Below, we’ve listed the armor locations in the best order to find them as you make your way through the castle.

Royal Guard Boots Location

The Royal Guard Boots are found in the Guards’ Chamber, which can be reached by following the path to the left from the main entrance and then heading into the first door on the right. The Guards’ Chamber is then down a set of stairs a little down the hallway. There are a fair few enemies in the chambers, so you’ll want to take them out before you go for the boots, which are found in a chest near two Lizalfos enemies.

(1 of 3) The Guards’ Chamber is through the entrance on the path just up from the main entrance of the Castle.

Royal Guard Uniform Location

Next, you’ll need to head up to the Dining Hall area to find the Royal Guard Uniform. The Royal Guard Uniform is found on the path on the level above where you found the entrance to the Guards’ Chambers. You’ll either want to follow the path all the way around or climb up the side of the cliff or even use Revali’s Gale to boost yourself into the air for a quick shortcut. Once you’ve found the Dining Hall, head straight through into the hall on the opposite end of the hall - you can just run past the enemies to the left and right!

Carry on right down the hall infront and use a bomb to explode the fragile rock wall at the end of the corridor and on the left-hand wall. You’ll find a Royal Guard’s Sword next to the chest, which is a decent weapon too!

(1 of 3) The Dining Hall is on the second level of the Hyrule Castle pathway.

Royal Guard Cap Location

The Guard Cap is found in the Inner Sanctum, which can be a bit of a tricky area to navigate because of all the Guardian enemies on the path leading up to the Inner Sanctum. It can also be a bit too easy to trigger the final Ganon boss fight so make sure you don’t walk into the main room on the ground floor! The Royal Guard Cap is found on the upper level of the Inner Sanctum. You can make your way up there by climbing up the walls and turrets, and keep heading around until you find some windows onto the upper floor. The upper floor is covered in Malice, but you can make your way around it by hugging the wall. The Royal Guard Cap is found in a chest beneath a statue on the upper floor.

The Royal Guard Armor Set cannot be upgraded or dyed but it does offer decreased stamina usage when charge attacking.

(1 of 4) The treasure chest is found on the upper level of the Inner Sanctum.
