Item Drops¶

The Varuna is a fiend that can be found in the Omega Ruins, as well as in the Nucleus area of Inside Sin. The first action that the Varuna does is cast Haste on itself, before any other actions can be taken. It will usually follow this up by casting tier 3 elemental spells at characters. After that, depending on the party makeup, it can use Slow (Auron), Silence (Yuna), or Pharaoh’s Curse (Tidus). That last one can inflict Curse, Silence and Poison. If none of the above characters are present, it will use Demi instead. Another thing it can also do is either cast Death or Dispel, the latter of which is on the entire party.

Note that it can also rebuff itself with Haste if you Dispel it yourself. After being targeted a number of times, it will use Mana Focus to charge up for its special attack, Emblem of Fate. Your best option is to just try to take it down with normal attacks, since it halves all elemental magic and Holy can be a bit expensive, MP-wise. Should you have trouble finding this fiend for capturing purposes, you can wait until after defeating Omega Weapon, then head to the inner section of the ruins, where it should be a bit more common to find due to fewer enemy formations.
