Four Event Phases:
The Chalk Prince and the Dragon is a Limited Timed Event and it first appeared on the 23rd December 2020 with it running through until the 5th January 2021. It consists of four phases which will unlock on different dates. The event is essentially a story quest for Albedo.
The first thing you’ll notice about Dragonspine is the new gameplay mechanic Subzero Climate. What will happen is, whilst traversing the area you will start to get cold, this is called the Sheer Cold status and this is indicated by a blue meter above your Health bar.
The status will accumulate at approximately 1% a second, certain actions like swimming in the water or being in a Snowstorm will increase the rate even further, at around 3/4 of the meter, it will begin to flash, meaning in 30 seconds the Sheer Cold status will hit its peak dealing 2% of your Health a second.
To counter this status, you’ll need to find a heat source. Heat sources come in different varieties, Bonfires, cookpots, Torches, Ruin Braziers which can be activated and Warming Seelies, some food recipes such as Goulash will slow the rate that it accumulates. Teleport Waypoints and Statues of The Seven will also reset your Sheer Cold status.
The Final Experiment: Withering Glory
- Head to the location of the intelligence test
- Solve the nearby mechanism
- Return to the center and activate the device
- Investigate the area behind the drain
- Return to the campsite and hear Albedo’s conclusions
Head to the location of the intelligence test
Head quite a distance southeast until you reach the ruins where the marker is, there are quite a few puzzles on your way to the test but you can ignore them for now.
Solve the nearby mechanism
South Seelie Puzzle
You can use the Warming Seelies and their pedestals to get warmth and reduce the Sheer Cold status.
After the cut scene, you’ll have two Warming Seelie puzzles to do.
The first one requires you to find all the Warming Seelies and guide them onto their pedestal, if you stand near the pedestal and use Elemental Sight, you can see what direction to head to find them, they can be found:
Southwest of the pedestals, halfway up a mountain.
On the broken pillar, east of the pedestals.
Once you start guiding them back, you’ll have a couple of encounters to deal with, take them down quick with Pyro and Electro and continue guiding them back.
North Seelie Puzzle
This puzzle is different because when you touch a Warming Seelie, they’ll circle around the braziers pulsating a fire every time they get to a brazier. The first thing you need to do is get another Seelies and guide it back, this can be found on a broken wall, where the puzzle is.
You need to walk into the Seelies to make them circle the braziers, they’ll do one full circle and then stop, requiring you to walk into them to make them circle the braziers again.
What you want to do is, get the first Seelie going and as it gets just before the second pillar away from the other Seelie, walk into the second, if timed right, they will light up all the braziers allowing you to progress the quest.
Return to the center and activate the device
Head back to the center and activate the device, which is now unlocked, this will drain the water.
Investigate the area behind the drain
Drop down into the area where the water was and investigate the strange markings on the wall, this will trigger a cut scene.
Return to the campsite and hear Albedo’s conclusions
Once the scene has ended, head back to Albedo’s lab, which will trigger another cut scene and will end the questline for now.
