The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Cook in Tears of the Kingdom

By
Shane Williams

The Great Sky Island is the very first area you’ll be able explore in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Here you’ll be taught the basics, such as crafting rafts, cooking and how to use the new devices. This page will teach you everything you need to know about cooking, so you can easily replenish your health.

You can use any !Campfire to cook delicious dishes.

How To Light Campfires in Tears of the Kingdom

You will notice that for the first few hours into your adventure you’ll only have 3 Hearts, so you’ll want to make sure you keep your health topped up to prevent you from easily being killed. At the early stage of the game you can replenish your health by picking up and eating fruit, mushrooms and peppers. However, this will only replenish a little bit of health, so you’ll have to consume lots of them before your health is full. You’ll want to combine certain ingredients to cook unique dishes which will not only replenish a lot more hearts, but will also give you certain buffs which will be useful for exploring, such as Cold Resistance.

In order to do this you’ll need to find a Camp Fire which can be found scattered all over the !Great Sky Island and the Hyrule Surface. However, some fires may not be lit, so you’ll need to do it yourself by dropping a piece of "Flint" iconFlint onto the floor next to it and attacking it with a Metallic Weapon. Alternatively, you can ignite the Campfire by using the "Fuse" iconFuse Ability to combine your "Arrow" iconArrows with "Fire Fruit" iconFire Fruit to make them flammable, then you can shoot it. If you cant find any nearby !Campfires, then you can also create your own campfire by chopping down trees with an Axe and igniting the logs.

How to Cook Food in Tears of the Kingdom

(1 of 2) Select Ingredients from your Inventory

Select Ingredients from your Inventory (left), and place them into the pot. (right)

Once you’ve ignited the Camp Fire you’ll want to cook some food which can be done by opening up your inventory and selecting the ingredients you want to cook, then exit and press A Joy-Con-ButtonA whilst standing next to the fire to begin the cooking process. Alternatively, you can cook food by just dropping the ingredients on the floor next to the fire.

If you want your food to replenish more hearts, then you’ll want to combine more ingredients to make better dishes. Same goes for the Status Effect if you add multiple of the same ingredient, so combining 2 Fish and 2 "Spicy Pepper" iconSpicy Peppers will give you Cold Resistance for 6 minutes as opposed to 3 minutes if you only used one.
