The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Find and Catch Faeries in Tears of the Kingdom

By
Nathan Garvin

Faeries are a long-running feature in The Legend of Zelda games, reviving Link from the brink of death when his hearts are depleted, and they return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom… albeit with very little fanfare. In fact, if you don’t know where to look (especially if you haven’t played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), you might not know this core gameplay element is even in the game! This page will help you find and capture faeries in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Faeries prefer to dwell on sky islands, around pools of water. Such islands are rare, but somewhat distinctive.

Where to Find Faeries in Tears of the Kingdom

Faeries in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are fairly particular about their chosen demesne, being both hydrophilic and favoring loftier abodes. This narrows down your search area considerably, as faeries only abide near small pools of water on sky islands. Check out the linked page for tips on reaching sky islands. These pools are fairly small and almost perfectly round, so it may be hard to spot them even after you’ve revealed most of the map, but some areas you can find them include:

To catch a fairy, sneak up to them and wait for them to fly within range.

How to Catch Faeries in Tears of the Kingdom

Just because you find a fairy pool doesn’t mean any attendant faeries will see fit to grace you with their company. They’re a skittish lot, and would rather not be carried around in some elf boy’s pouch until he suffers a mortal blow, thank you very much. You’ll have to catch them, and if you go about it haphazardly, the faeries will wisely fly off. The solution is simple: sneak up on them by pressing Joy-Con-LS, then walk up near one. They appear as glowing motes of light, and if you’re sneaking, they shouldn’t notice you no matter how brazen you are. Just wait for one to fly within range - stalk them around if you must - and when you get a prompt, snatch them.

You can only carry three faeries at a time, and they’ll be instantly used when your hearts are reduced to zero, preventing you from dying and restoring five hearts. There is no cutscene or fanfare for when this happens, and combat will continue flowing unabated, so be wary. Faeries may take a while to respawn if you capture too many from one location at a time, so be sure to rotating your fairy farming grounds.
