How to Get The Camera in Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jessica Dillon

If you’re a fan of Zelda lore, then you are going to want to get your hands on the camera ASAP. The camera helps you record enemies, plants, and identify weapons, giving you a wealth of knowledge by adding it to an in-game encyclopedia called the Hyrule Compendium. The guide below goes over how to get the camera, how to unlock the Hyrule Compendium, and how to use the camera once you unlock them in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom.

Speaking with !Josha starts the quest to unlock the camera.

Where to Get The Camera in ToTK

To get the camera, you need to talk to "Josha" iconJosha, who is right below "Purah" iconPurah’s workshop. Once you do, you will go with "Robbie" iconRobbie to the "Hyrule Field Chasm" iconHyrule Field Chasm, right up the road from your current location. Once you get to the Chasm, you simply need to guide down and talk to the researcher at the quest marker.

(1 of 3) !Robbie is located to the west at the second tower.

Be sure to bring some Bright Bloom Seeds to help light your way forward. Once you speak to the researcher, head to the first tower and stand in the middle to activate it, from here, go west to the second tower, and you will find Robbie beside the nearby campfire. Robbie will instruct you on how to use the camera, snap a picture of the statue, and then return to Josha to complete the quest. This will unlock the Hyrule Compendium, as well as the ability to use the camera.

How to Use The Camera

Once you have the camera, you will be able to use it anywhere on your travels. You can activate it from the ability wheel and freely move around when you take pictures, be warned though, monsters will still attack you, and you won’t be able to fight back. Once you pull out the camera, you can take pictures of subjects with a ? or name next to them to reveal their name.

(1 of 3) Objects that go into the Hyrule Compendium will have a special marker or name.

Snapping a picture will add enemies, plants, and animals to the Hyrule Compendium. You can open the Hyrule Compendium from your map menu, and each entry contains in-depth information about the subject.
