The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Complete the Teach Me a Lesson Quests in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jessica Dillon

There are a ton of quest lines to complete in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. Some of them only grant small rewards, while others will unlock new features in the game. Teach Me a Lesson is one of the quest lines that give you a new feature in the form of having your own crop field. The guide below goes over how to complete both parts of Teach Me a Lesson and unlock the ability to grow crops in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom.

The Hateno Village school holds the Teach Me a Lesson quest line.

How to Begin the Teach Me a Lesson Quests in Tears of The Kingdom

You won’t be able to grow crops easily in Tears of The Kingdom. The game makes you complete two quests before you will gain access to a field in East Necluda’s !Hateno Village.

You can start this quest line as soon as you arrive in !Hateno Village. Both of these quests revolve around the school in !Hateno Village, and while short, can be annoying to complete as you have to travel to other locations around Hyrule. Once you’re done though, a quest called Uma’s Garden will unlock where you can grow a small variety of crops. This is a great way to easily gain access to cooking ingredients in Tears of The Kingdom.

Where to Find The Calamity Screen in Teach Me a Lesson I

To start Teach Me a Lesson I, you need to visit the !Hateno Village school. This can be found on the east side of town between the !Hateno Village Farm and Ginner Woods. Once there you will need to speak with "Symin" iconSymin to let him know about "Princess Zelda" iconPrincess Zelda’s fate. Afterward a speech quest bubble will pop up above his head. Speak with him and you will learn that he is teaching a lesson on the Calamity and needs proof about the event to show his students. If the quest doesn’t trigger, teleport to a nearby shrine and then try speaking with Symin again.

(1 of 4) Symin needs you to take a photo of a screen in Kakariko Village.

You will need to take a photo of the screen detailing The Calamity in Paya’s Hall. This is located in Kakariko Village and is easiest to spot as it’s the largest house in town. The screen is on the upper level, and you will need to use your "Camera" iconCamera to snap a picture of it. If you don’t have the Camera yet, then check out our guide here to quickly acquire it. Be sure that the name of the screen is popping up when you snap the photo or it won’t count for the quest.

You will now want to head back to Symin at the !Hateno Village school. To complete this quest, speak with him when class is in session. School starts at 9 am and ends at 2 pm, but if you’re not close to school hours, go to the inn and sleep until noon. Once you show the picture to the class you will be awarded with x10 "Hylian Rice" iconHylian Rice for your troubles and the second part of the quest line, Teach Me a Lesson II will unlock.

How to Make Monster Curry in Teach Me a Lesson II

You will need to speak with Symin again to start Teach Me a Lesson II. This time things are a bit more complicated; the class is learning about cooking monster dishes. To prove that they exist, Symin will ask Link to make Monster Curry. This is a dish made with the following ingredients:

  • Monster Extract
  • Hylian Rice
  • Goron Spice

The Hylian Rice was the reward for the first part of the quest, so you should already have it in your inventory. If you’ve already used it, then you can pick some up from the !Hateno Village General Goods Store. For Goron Spice, you will need to visit the Goron City General Goods Store. Here you can purchase Goron Spice for 16 Rupees each. Finally, You can find !Monster Extract from Fyson at the Slippery Falcon in Tarry Town for the price of 50 Rupees.

(1 of 4) Speak with Symin again to start Teach Me a Lesson II.

How to Unlock the Crop Field

Once you have all three ingredients, equip them using your inventory and throw them in a nearby cooking pot together. This will make the Monster Curry, be sure not to mix any other ingredients in or you can mess up the recipe. Return to !Hateno Village and give the dish to Symin while class is in session, the students will try the dish and you will be awarded with the ability to use the field directly in front of the school to grow crops. You can start this process by talking to Uma, this will trigger a new quest called Uma’s Garden.
