The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

A Token of Friendship Walkthrough - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Some of the armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have side quests attached to them, although it’s possible to find the armor without doing those. One such piece of armor is the Zora Greaves, which is part of the Zora Armor Set and improves your swimming speed. This page will focus on A Token of Friendship, a side quest that becomes available upon helping the Zora.

Queen Yona will have a side quest that sends you to find the Zora Greaves.

Where to Start A Token of Friendship in Tears of the Kingdom

As with a majority of the side quests in Zora’s Domain, you will need to clear the Zora’s portion of A "Regional Phenomena" iconRegional Phenomena, which is one of the main quests you get early in the game. Upon doing this, head to where the goddess statue is in !Zora’s Domain and right across from it will be "Yona" iconYona, who will give you the quest. She mentions that she was going to give you the Zora Greaves as thanks for helping out the kingdom, but they still haven’t been located. According to some ancient texts, the greaves were offered up at the "Ancient Zora Waterworks" iconAncient Zora Waterworks as a prayer.

Where to Find the Zora Greaves in Tears of the Kingdom

Yona did mention the Ancient Zora Waterworks, which is a place you visited during the whole questline with the Zora. If you forgot already, you need to dive into the giant whirlpool in the lake, just southeast of !Zora’s Domain. Once you go into the whirlpool, follow the main trail until you reach the main room of the waterworks. You’ll notice that the place is drained of water (a NPC will be down here, saying the same thing), so it’s time to get exploring.

(1 of 3) This giant whirlpool is the entrance to the Ancient Zora Waterworks.

You’ll want to get to the bottom portion and look for a giant hole in the ground. Upon finding the hole, jump down it to find another open area, with some waterfalls. Ignore those for now, as there is a "Stone Talus" iconStone Talus down here. Approach the large rock near the one waterfall to activate the miniboss, then it’s time to fight it. Note that you technically don’t need to defeat the Stone Talus, but you might as well while you’re here.

How to Defeat the Stone Talus in Tears of the Kingdom

The Stone Talus is a simple miniboss, as it doesn’t really do much in the way of attacks. However, depending on where you’re at in the game, those attacks can really hurt and might even one-shot you. Your best bet is to stay away from melee range, where it will shoot its “hands” at you. If it’s shooting the left hand (from your perspective), then run to the right, and vice versa with the other side. It will burrow into the ground after shooting both (and sometimes even one), getting another rock to replace it.

That’s your cue to jump on its back and start attacking the ore node there, which is the source of its health bar. When you see it start to shake a little bit, that means it’s going to buck you off, so you’ll want to jump off before that happens, as you’ll take a little bit of damage from that. Just repeat this until you drain all of its health, which will put an end to the boss. The Stone Talus Heart is a great fusion item for a weapon, too, so don’t forget that, since you cannot normally pick it up.

(1 of 4) There’s an optional Stone Talus miniboss here.

Once the Stone Talus is out of the way, look for the one waterfall that clearly has something behind it. There, you will find a little pedestal, along with a chest that contains the "Zora Greaves" iconZora Greaves. As soon as you loot the greaves, you will complete this side quest.
