By
Jarrod Garripoli

There are a number of Side Quests to be found in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, spread out in various parts of the world. This one will be found in the Kara Kara Bazaar, which is a little ways away from Gerudo Town.

(1 of 2) Speak to the travelers at the bazaar to begin this side quest

Speak to the travelers at the bazaar to begin this side quest (left), He mentions his friend went out the west gate (right)

Where to Start Lost in the Dunes in Tears of the Kingdom

When you first arrive at Kara Kara Bazaar upon entering the Gerudo region, you will see a group of travelers that have some mysterious orb next to them. You won’t be able to do anything with them yet, so you’ll have to come back a little later. Head to Gerudo Town and do the main story stuff there, until you have to come back to the bazaar to defend it from a mass "Gibdo" iconGibdo attack. After you complete that bit, look for that same group of travelers to see that one is missing. Speak with Benja, who mentions their leader, Ponthos, seems to be missing after the attack.

Where to Find Ponthos for Lost in the Dunes in Tears of the Kingdom

Benja mentions that Ponthos went running out of the western exit of the bazaar, and that he might have fallen in a sinkhole or something. Note that while you can start this quest prior to completing the Lightning Temple, it’s probably much easier to wait until after you finish it, so that the sand shroud in the desert is gone and it’s easier to see. Upon exiting out of the bazaar and into the bigger area of the desert, head a little southwest to see a campfire next to a large pillar. The sinkhole should be right next to that, so jump in to reach the "Oasis Source" iconOasis Source cave.

(1 of 2) Look for the campfire right outside of the bazaar

Look for the campfire right outside of the bazaar (left), There will be a sinkhole right next to the campfire, which is where you need to go (right)

You will see Ponthos in the first room here, so speak to him to learn that you’re trapped. Well, he didn’t look very hard, since there’s a breakable rock wall through the larger opening. Destroy this wall, then you’ll come to another two rock walls. The blue rocks lead to an ore node, while the other will take you into a larger area. This larger area has some "Stone Pebblit" iconStone Pebblit enemies, so be wary of that. Locate the blue rock wall in this area and break it, revealing a path to a ladder. This ladder is the Kara Kara Bazaar Well, so it will take you right there.

(1 of 3) Ponthos will be in the sinkhole, so speak to him

Once you have a clear path to the ladder, head back to Ponthos and speak to him, telling him you cleared a way. He will now scurry off, so return to the bazaar and speak with Benja to complete the quest. Your reward is the orb on the ground, which you can bring back to the statue room in the !Gerudo Shelter for The Mysterious Eighth side quest.
