The Fort at Ja'Abu Ridge Walkthrough - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Ben Chard

There are many different types of content in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, be it helping people around town with simple tasks, to venturing off to enemy strongholds and purging the threats. This page will cover everything you need to know about The Fort at !Ja’Abu Ridge, an enemy forces side quest.

The Fort at Ja’Abu Ridge is a Side Quest at Zora’s Domain.

The Zora soldier Gaddison informed you that monsters built a fort on the north side of !Ja’Abu Ridge.

If left alone, it could pose a threat to !Zora’s Domain.

How to Begin The Fort at Ja’Abu Ridge Side Quest in TOTK

This is a combat-focused Side Quest, so before you begin unlocking it, consider checking you have some sufficient food to heal yourself and a nice stock of weapons, bows, and shields. You’ll also need to progress the Main Quest until you’ve completed the Water Temple and wrapped up the "Regional Phenomena" iconRegional Phenomena storyline in Zora’s Domain.

Once all of this is done, return to !Zora’s Domain and head east at the throne room to reach a bridge that stretches back to the mainland. Patrolling this bridge is Gaddison, who looks like she’s in a spot of bother so speak with her to learn her plight. It appears monsters have taken refuge up Ja’Abu Ridge and she fears that if nothing is done about them soon, they may spell trouble for !Zora’s Domain. Once you finish speaking with her, the location of the fort will be added to your map.

How to Complete The Fort at Ja’Abu Ridge Side Quest in TOTK

As mentioned above, this is a combat related affair, so check once more you have your supplies in order before setting off. Although you’ll only be facing off against "Bokoblin" iconBokoblins and a "Boss Bokoblin" iconBoss Bokoblin at the fort, their difficulty will be based on where you’re at in the adventure. If you’re taking this on relatively early in the game, then expect Red or Blue which will make life a lot easier. But access this quest later in your adventure, and the presence of Black or "Silver Bokoblin" iconSilver Bokoblins make this a much tougher encounter.

Still, you’ll need to actually reach the fort first, so teleport to the Ihen-a Shrine you hopefully activated during the Regional Phenomena questline. From here, head towards the southeast edge of the island and leap off, using your "Paraglider" iconParaglider to reach !Ja’Abu Ridge where you will see the fort.

As you approach it, you’ll come across a Bokoblin on the watchtower, use a bow and deal with it before it can alert any other monsters and allow you the luxury of surprise. If you look above, you’ll see platforms you can use "Ascend" iconAscend to reach, there are also barrels up here you can use at the enemies below. Once you’re ready, fire a bomb arrow into the group below to get the battle underway.

(1 of 3) The difficulty of the enemies will be based on how far into the adventure you are

Don’t feel obliged to stay in the fort if things look dicey (especially when dealing with Black or Silver types), retreat outside the entrance and let them come to you, setting up perfect opportunities for a bomb arrow or other like-minded explosion. If you’re fortunate, you will avoid grabbing the attention of the Boss Bokoblin at the top of the fort. For this, Ascend to the top of the platform that gives you a clear line of sight and then fire explosive arrows at it, killing it before it can even get close to you.

With the area clear, be sure to loot the chest for a Lynel Reaper and if "Hino" iconHino is here, use "Ultrahand" iconUltrahand to lift his cage and release him, he’ll hand over rewards based on how many times you’ve saved him at the various forts around Hyrule. All that remains now is to make your return to Gaddison at !Zora’s Domain and deliver the news, as thanks, she’ll hand over a "Silver Rupee" iconSilver Rupee (100).
