What Are Bubbul Frogs?

By
Jessica Dillon

There are a ton of new side activities to do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. Some of these include not only finding Koroks but tracking down giant frogs and "Poe" iconPoes for their drops. If you have seen a Bubbul Frog in your game, then you’re likely wondering what their purpose is. The guide below goes over what a Bubbul Frog is, where to find them, and what they do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom.

What Are The Giant Glowing Frogs in Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom?

During your first few hours in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, you will be going into quite a few caves. You have likely spotted a giant blue frog that is glowing and crawling up the side of the cave or across the ceiling. The enemy isn’t hostile and won’t attack you, but if you see one, you should kill it right away as it drops a new collectible item called "Bubbul Gem" iconBubbul Gems. You will likely find your first one on the Great Sky Island either in The Mining Cave or in the "Pit Cave" iconPit Cave.

Where Do I Find Bubbul Frogs and How Do I Kill Them?

Bubbul Frogs tend to only spawn inside caves, but not all caves will have a Bubbul Frog. The best way to figure out if a nearby cave is hiding one is to go inside and clear it out. If you don’t find a frog, but you’ve mopped up all the monsters and gotten the treasure chest, then check your map. When you have done everything inside a cave, a little checkmark will pop up beside it. If you don’t see one, go back inside and take another look. Bubbul Frogs will hide behind breakable rocks, so finding them can be a bit tricky.

Once you find a Bubbul Frog, you will need to throw a weapon or use your bow to knock them down. It doesn’t take much damage to kill one, and if you use a "Fire Fruit" iconFire Fruit with your bow, you will likely one-shot a Bubbul Frog. Once they have been defeated, they will drop a Bubbul Gem, a new collectible in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom.
