The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Pull Chests Out of The Ground in Tears of The Kingdom

By
Shane Williams

When you start exploring Hyrule you’ll come across chests which are stuck into the ground. This page will navigate you through the necessary steps to pulling them out.

You’ll find lots of chests stuck in the ground/water.

How To Get Chests Out of The Ground and Water In TotK

There are 100s of chests which are scattered across the Sky Island, Hyrule Surface and The Depths and you’ll want to try and hunt down as many as you can, as they offer lots of useful items which will make exploring easier, such as Weapons, Armour, Rupees, Materials. These will be extremely useful during the early portion of the game, as the Rupees will allow you to purchase better armor from the traders which you can use to tackle some of the harder quests. Unlike Enemies and Plants, Chests do not respawn, so eventually you’ll start coming across chests which are stuck in the ground/water.

However, you won’t be able to open these until you’ve pulled them out of the ground which requires the "Ultrahand" iconUltrahand Ability. In order to unlock the Ultrahand Ability you’ll need to complete the "Ukouh Shrine" iconUkouh Shrine which is located to the northwest of the "Great Sky Island" iconGreat Sky Island. This Shrine will give you puzzles that will teach you how to use the ability. For more tips on how to solve the puzzles, then checkout our walkthrough here: How to Complete Ukouh Shrine.

Once you’ve acquired the Ultrahand Ability you’ll want to activate it by bringing up the ability wheel by holding down Joy-Con-L, then select Ultrahand which is located to the right of the menu. From here, you’ll want to hover over the chest you wish to pull out and press the A Joy-Con-ButtonA button to pull it out. Additionally, if you keep your Ultrahand Ability active, then any nearby chests will be highlighted. If you’re struggling to find chests, then we have an interactive map that will have all of their locations.
