By
Jessica Dillon

There are a ton of strong enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. One of the most memorable ones from Breath of The Wild is the "Lynel" iconLynel. This is an enemy that is known for easily taking down players as it hits hard and can strike fast. The guide below goes over how to fight a Lynel and take it down without losing all your hearts.

Taking a Lynel on in Hyrule Ridge.

Where to find Lynels

The easiest place to find a Lynel is in Hyrule Ridge. Just off the road from Jeddo Bridge, you can click here for an exact location on the map. The level of Lynel that you encounter here will depend on how far you have made it into the game, a White Lynel is the most powerful you can encounter and should only be taken on with leveled armor and strong weapons.

How to Defeat a Lynel

Defeating a Lynel is no easy task, especially if you’re a new player. For starters, fighting a Lynel head-on is extremely hard. Not only are they one of the hardest-hitting enemies in the game, but they are one of the fastest. For many players, it won’t even be possible to hit the Lynel with a single arrow before it strikes again. Flurry Rush, when it’s about to run at you, is your best bet to beating a Lynel when fighting on even ground, and you are likely to use quite a few healing items.

If you want the upper hand in battle, then you need to approach things differently. You will want to sneak up on the Lynel and jump onto its back. This works in the same way as mounting a horse. Once you are on its back, tap the attack button as quickly as you can to deal damage. This likely won’t take it down but will make it possible to defeat it after you get back on the ground. This isn’t a hard point if you get the upper hand, and there’s food and armor that can boost your stealth to make catching the Lynel off guard a bit easier. Here’s what Lynels drop when you defeat them.

  • Lynel Hoof
  • Lynel Mace Horn
  • Lynel Saber Horn

These are all materials you will need to use to upgrade certain armor sets in the game. In addition to this, Lynel can also drop arrows.
