Royal Fox Hunt

By
Scott Peers

This quest begins immediately after Honor and Enemies. Before beginning the siege of Paris, Toka has persuaded Eivor to speak with King Charles one last time, in the hopes that he will soften to their pleas.

Royal Fox Hunt, Siege of Paris DLC.

Search for King Charles at the Clever Fox Tavern

The only lead you have for the location of King Charles is at the Clever Fox Tavern, located in the northern part of Paris. As you approach the area, use your raven to scout the area and locate the tavern. You’ll find Toka inside. Speak with her to begin a cutscene, during which she’ll mention that she isn’t having any luck finding out where Charles might be. At this point Eivor takes the lead, and it’s time for you to speak with one of the performers on the ground floor, in the northeastern corner of the tavern.

The performer will sing a brief song, hinting that King Charles has a room at the tavern. After the song, interact with the performer again for more clues, which suggest that you can find a key to the room upstairs in the tavern. At the top of the stairs you’ll find a locked door and a ladder. Climb the ladder and then move the barricade blocking the way into a room on the northern side of the tavern. Speaking with the performer up here won’t yield any useful information, since he’s mute. With the barricade pushed in, you can climb through the window on the western side of the room, granting access to a balcony roof.

From the balcony roof, look to the southern side of the tavern to find a wooden window. Shoot or slash at the window to break it, then enter the room to find a key to the door downstairs. Using the key to open the door will grant you access to King Charles’ room, where you’ll find a note on the table which details an invitation to the amphitheatre of Amiens. Now that you have a lead, speak with Toka downstairs to inform her. You’ll be going to the theatre alone.

(1 of 6) Speak with the dancer in the corner of the tavern for your first clue.

Look for Charles in the Amphitheatre of Amiens

Now that you know where to look for Charles, it’s time to search the amphitheatre of Amiens. You’ll find it to the northwest of Paris, as shown on the map below. When you arrive, you’ll note that the amphitheatre is heavily guarded, mostly by archers and arbalists from the vantage points surrounding the theatre. You can avoid these fairly easily by keeping your cloak on and running between the pillars on the grounds of the amphitheatre, but you can just as easily kill them all if you prefer. We recommend taking some time to listen to the performance at the centre of the stage while you can!

When you ready to find Charles, look to the western side of the amphitheatre for an entrance underground, and use Odin’s Sight to highlight the objective at the bottom of the stairs. When you reach the bottom a cutscene will begin with Charles. During the scene you’ll find that Charles seems to be contending with a demonic representation of himself, but he soon snaps into the uncompromising kingly figure once Eivor reveals themselves. Charles makes it clear that he isn’t willing to discuss anything until his son, Bernard, is returned to him. But he wants this done publicly, on the battlefield, where his nobles can see him receive something from the invaders.

After the scene, you’ll need to travel back to the Clever Fox Tavern and inform Toka about the terms from Charles. The quest will end after the brief scene with Toka.
